You know, sometimes the problems I have with how female characters are treated in comics seem so nebulous and plentiful that they are hard to pin down and explain properly. ( But I found a way! Cut for length. )
Good ol' Cameron Stewart. (And I totally figured out that acronym on my own, Scotty! Be proud of your aged friend here.)
I'm still not entirely certain of when OYL took place relative to other events, as I wasn't following comics back then. I didn't know that the introduction of Batwoman came on the heels of Batgirl being cancelled. Hmm.
Man, I really want to like Kate because she's the only queer member of, y'know, any of DC's franchises, and Elegy was pretty cool and so was 52 vol 4, but I can't help but totally resent her for what happened to Cass.
Michelle: I'm reversing judgement on this one. I've enjoyed how Jurgens writes her compared to the overly sweet version Johns did. Reading interviews Jurgens has stated that there are plans for her but they get into the hows and whys of what Rip does. But given all the editorial stuff it's easy to see why it got pushed back some. The Magog Brave and Bold arc to promote the new book, and the Blackest Night arc which judging by Jurgens pervious statements wasn't even in the cards originally

Yeah, I think the directionlessness stems from not having any editors or writers who are gung-ho about those characters enough to make it work. I mean, they've got Q. Miller set up with Steph and Babs in Batgirl now, and I am cautiously optimistic in some respects, but the larger picture is effed up. And when a writer says that a character like Cass has no where dramatic left to go, there's something seriously wrong.
I HATE that they pitted my two favorite characters against each other. Cass and Steph go together like peanut butter and jelly and they deserve to recover from screwed up writing together. Now I feel guilty supporting Steph at the expense of Cass. It's not fair to either character.
I don't think Bryan Miller isn't interested in Cass- he sent Scotty a thing saying Cass is a great character- but he's just got Steph to work with and he can't be bothered to learn about Cass while he's not allowed to touch her.
I miss BoP. And I'd still love for Babs to run a team of kickass teenage girls (Cass Charlie Steph Supergirl) and then take over the world...

Don't! Don't feel guilty! That's what THEY WANT you to feel! Don't give in to The Man!

Okay, that's something then. I still don't like the fact that he said there's nowhere left to go with her.
And yes, Babs's team of teenage girl superheroes would be awesome.
Well said. I really like Babs mentoring Stephanie and am loving the Detective Comics (love Rucka) but this whole post-Batman death crap that shook up Gotham just shook the ladies out of the mix.
What I wouldn't give for Birds of Prey to come back...

I know what you mean - remember OYL? It was like "Batgirl's canceled, but you've got a Batwoman! You can just trade one lady for another, 'sall cool".

I know. I still miss that book so much. There's nothing else like it.
