NOOOOOOOOOOOOOLAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN! OMG I love him SO MUCH and he is SO PERFECT in this. I thought the first one would be my favorite but it actually turned out to be the last one. I just can see EXACTLY how Nolan is going to get from here to the person he is on the show and it's SO PERFECT

And I love your thinky thoughts about Nolan! I honestly wasn't thinking through all those particular nuances while writing it, but it's always cool to see what ends up in your story even if you aren't consciously thinking about it. I do think Nolan is aware of the roles he plays, but I think he also gets frustrated because he doesn't know how to break out of those roles, either. He has the social awareness to figure out where he stands, but he doesn't have the social awareness to get out of it, either.

And really, I think, what fundamentally drives him is his loneliness and his desire to be liked. I think that motivation is weirdly innocent for this show, and it's part of why I really enjoy him as a character!
