I had that happen a long time ago with my ferret Rowan...her eye area swelled up like a marble. I gavce her some children's benadryl and it settled down shortly after. Never was sure what happened but her eye was okay, no ulcer etc so it was some kind of weird random allergic reaction.
I thought about Benedryl last night but I didn't have the children's form and I wasn't sure of the dosage. I looked it up on the internet and it stated 1 mg or ml I can't remember per pound of body weight. Wolf (dog) had a reaction to a vaccine once and they told me to give him 10 cc/ml so that is about right. I couldn't find a page that gave me the dosage for a ferret just dogs and cats and since it was the same for both and they are like cats I figured it was right. But I was scared I would overdose her so I only gave her a little bit of the powder out of the pill. I knew the pill was 25 mg so. I don't know if it did anything or if it just would have gotten better anyway. I doubt I gave her enough. What would the dosage be anyway with the liquid? I am going to buy some and have it on hand.
Usually 0.25cc liquid children's benadryl once to twice daily. Careful not to overdo it as benadryl can have some nasty side effects related to the heart and just like in dogs too much can be harmful.
