I have a 105 pound black lab mix named Trixy and until today I have kept her away from stormy. If stormy was in his cage I would let in my office, but I would not let her within 3 feet of his cage. She never seemed to care much about him she would look at him when he talked but that was it. Well today I let her come in when I had stormy out. She ( Read more... )

And this is why Sunshine has never met any of my other pets without bars between them. :-) Because I don't trust HER not to start crap with THEM.

Heh! It's so funny how little parrots think they are HUGE. My caiques have no fear of any of the other animals in the house, and if our rabbit or cats come too close they'll try to take a chomp at them (particularly those tempting, twitching cat tail tips!). The poor kitties always look so aggrieved: "Why would you do that to me? I was minding my own business!"

my caique has chased my 2 cats off their cat tower multiple times. They're terrified of him, not the other way around.

Oh, please don't let them mingle. Not only is it a safety hazard in that you never know when one will snap at the other, but mammal saliva (especially dogs and cats) contains bacteria that is deadly to birds.

Here's just one quick reference:

Yeah, don't let the dogs salvia near your birds. I took a picture of my jack russell mix near my cockatiel and everyone flipped out about it.

If you let your bird out around your dog I'd really keep an eye out.
