Yay, and we get pictures too! Man, a quaker was one of the last birds I ever thought you'd have, but I wonder if that's half because they're off my radar completely, what with being Californian and all
( ... )
He's actually capable of gaining 5' or more in height, and jumped from the ground to land on the back of one of those chairs. He can also TURN. It's really quite something.
Can you imagine how easily a light bodied parrot who had just a bit of primaries growing in could fly, even clipped?
I can imagine, because Matcha, with mostly-clipped wings, ended up as a stray in San Jose. And given how much she loves shoulders, I can easily imagine how this happened... Someone thought it would be just fine to go outside with the shoulder-loving nanday, and the shoulder-loving nanday revealed just how well she can fly.

My parents still have Sammi.... I moved out, and all his training that I had done went out the window. *headdesk*. Quakers are so awesome though, Sammi is such a little perfectionist, and will do ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING for a treat. He is a face picker though (which makes me CRAZY, but I try to distract him with toys and pretending I'm going to eat him, which he loves), and is happiest sitting around watching the world. And he eats like you wouldn't believe....... But my parents do a lot of things very very wrong, and he's got some really bad behaviours. And quakers have much sharper/stronger beaks than cockatiels....... He attacks my fiance, so of course she's terrified of him... He lunges, bites, gets way too overstimulated way too often... ugh, not good. But they're SO SMART. Which is why he's a great bird, all on his own. Good luck with your lovely green chicken!!! Enjoy the purring. I love the purring!!! Eeee!!!!

The noises that he makes are unearthly. He's constantly chirping and chattering and making little grumbly noises. He almost doesn't even sound like a parrot. I quite like it, but it's taking a little getting used to.
Poor Sammi. Still, at least he's got a good home and people who like him, which is more than a lot of birds get.

OMG HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THE PURRING?! Sammi puts his head on your cheek and purrs... omg I die inside a little bit everytime. In a good way, of course. I forgive him for attacking my fiance, and drawing blood, and being whiny and a precocious brat when he does that. Or when he puts his head down and lets me kiss him. He also bobs when you make any repeated noise (like clapping your hands). It's so so so cute.
Do you need your quaker book back yet? ;) Sammi gave it his parrot-of-approval stamp by chewing off the corner..... *headdesk* Um, sorry???
