David's trying to decide between a watermelon and a cantaloupe when he hears someone call out 'Hey, doc!' Of course he looks up; he's spent far too long around his team to not instantly respond to that phrase, as it's usually followed by some kind of important instruction. He's confused when he doesn't see anyone he recognizes, and so turns his attention back to the melons. The fruit doesn't hold his attention for long, though, because someone taps him on the shoulder, saying once more, 'Hey, doc, what're you doing here? We thought you were in Russia or something.'

David turns to see two men standing next to him, both looking to be in their mid-to-late twenties at the most. His brow furrows; he doesn't recognize either of them. David's relatively sure neither work at the SGC or on Atlantis, though the shorter of the two does bear an odd resemblance to Ladon Radim.

'Can I help you?' David asks, still holding the cantaloupe he'd been contemplating before being spoken to. 'I don't believe we've met.'

'Aw, come on, doc,' Ladon's near-doppelganger says with a mildly amused glance at his companion. 'We haven't seen you in a while. No need to get all defensive about it.'

'No, I'm not kidding, I don't know either of you,' David says with a frown. 'I think you've got me mistaken with someone else. I'm David Parrish. Doctor David Parrish, actually. Not sure how you knew my proper title, though.'

Both men are wearing casual clothes appropriate for a late summer’s day in the Pacific Northwest: the tall one is in jeans and a button down shirt, while his companion wears jeans and a t-shirt. David notices that both have an air about them that speaks of some sort of training with self-defense; David’s gotten far too good at noticing that sort of thing after spending five years among members of the military.

'Sorry about that,' the taller of the two strangers replies, giving David a disarming smile. 'We thought you were someone we know, and we haven’t seen him for a while, so we came over to say hi.'

Oh. Well, that explains it, sort of. David nods politely, vaguely wondering where Evan is. His partner was supposed to go shopping with him, but David hasn't seen him since the two of them came to this grocery store in Old City. They've come to Old City for a botany conference that David's been invited to, spending some of their leave that's accumulated over the years. It's rather freeing, being away from Atlantis and the SGC; even with the return of Atlantis back to the Pegasus Galaxy, they like to get away from their responsibilities and just spend some time alone together, even if it's just for a week or so.

'No problem,' David says, setting down the melon. It's kind of strange to see a fixed price for food; even though they've been back in contact with Earth for four years now, David's still used to haggling for food, as that's the norm for the Pegasus Galaxy. He's only been back to Earth a couple of times since he came to Atlantis at the very beginning of the Expedition, and each time he finds it slightly more alien then before.

It's at this point that Evan finally joins David, holding the small carry-basket that has the small amount of groceries that they'll need for the week they'll be here. Evan glances at the two men- David still hasn't found out their names -and then turns to David, an inquiring look on his face.

David shakes his head slightly; neither man has threatened him in any shape or form, so he has no reason to worry Evan. 'Sorry I wasn't who you were looking for,' David says, making a snap decision and going with the small watermelon he'd been contemplating earlier. 'If you’ll excuse us, we've got to be going.'

He pulls Evan away from the produce section, leaving the two men behind. It's not the most graceful of exits, but it's the best David can pull off given the circumstances. To his credit, Evan waits until they're out of earshot before finally breaking down and speaking.

'So, what was that about?' he asks, curiosity evident in his voice. David shrugs.

'Apparently, I look like someone they know who's also a doctor,' he tells Evan, putting the watermelon into the basket and then taking hold of Evan's free hand.

'Huh. What are the odds?' Evan asks, a smile brightening his face as he adjusts his grip on the basket to compensate for the added weight of the melon.

David likes it when Evan smiles; it makes his blue eyes seem even more vivid than normal. It makes David happy to see Evan happy, so he nods and smiles as well.

'Yeah. What are the odds?'
