Heh, I can guess what part you agree the most with. :p It was all good stuff, but I was particularly heartened by Forest Whitaker's win - partly because he's so bloody good, but also partly because he always looks so sad and it was nice to see him smile for once.

LOL, well I'm pleased that Sacha and Helen Mirren won too. Since Hugh Laurie won last year I wasn't like OH MY GOD HUGH MUST WIN OR DEATH TO THOSE INVOLVED, it was more like 'oh shit, he's fucking beaten Kiefer Sutherland and Patrick Dempsey again. That's pretty damn good'

And I know what you mean about Forest Whitaker. Bless 'im.

I'm quite curious to see this for myself. However, for a decidedly different appraisal, you might be interested in the site I sometimes write reviews for.

I think that's an interesting review. I don't agree with it, obviously, but it's better than a lot of criticisms of the film I've read, which basically say that Idi Amin is portrayed as such a weirdo and monster that it has to be racist stereotyping - ignoring the fact that, well, that's actually what he was like in real life.

I have been thinking about these "white man in Africa" films, largely because of a good Sight & Sound article on them this month. I've drafted a post on the issue which I'll be putting up in the next week or so.

Mmm, yes! For some reason Helen Mirren is one of the few celebrities who causes me to be actively distracted by lust, so I was very happy she got so much screen time. Also, the Defamer.com comments on her have been priceless - such as "That's the first time the words 'I wish I was Taylor Hackford' have ever been uttered in my house."

As for America, Ugly Betty's just started over here, and I think there'll be a review coming soon...
