AGRH! Hope Match Pint isn't shit; I love Woody Allen and I've been looking forward to it. Well, I suppose with his recent films I shouldn't hold my breath.
I SEE now where you've been! I thought, well, shes friended me, but then ignored me, how odd! Haha.
Looking forward to King Kong SO much I think I might explode. Going to see it next week, so :D
The New World: hahaha, I know what you mean. HATE colin Farrell. But LOVE Christian Bale, so is fairly annoying. But nevermind, I casn live with it.
I think Match Point would be a lot better if it was called Match Pint... nah, I'm just being pernickerty now. I think it will still be good, but the new trailer isn't as exciting as the old one. It doesn't have that amazingly deadpan explanation of the title which looks like something from a Buster Keaton movie. I miss that.
I don't mind Colin Farrell, but he seems to think he can get away without acting these days. I think my main objection to The New World is the idea of paying to see weather that's worse than the weather outside. And it's a Terrence Malick film, so you know the focus will be on the weather, and lovely trees, and pretty birds, and everything that he can do to avoid focusing on the characters and the fucking plot.
Did you get to see King Kong? Notebooks out, Malick - that's how to make a long movie with loads of background detail that still has a compelling story. And its 'disappointing' opening weekend was more than twice Titanic's!
PS. Am a boy, but am always flattered when I'm mistaken for a girl. :)
Yeah, this is why I'm never too surprised when people mistake me for a girl - I have a very girly LJ name. And an inexplicably girly writing style. And I sometimes fancy men. So, you know, it's all a rich tapestry in there.
Hexham I do know from my years as a metro traveller. (Yes, I did used to pick up the free newspaper. Every morning. And I got pissed off when there weren't enough copies to go around) I spent a year living in the town centre, a year living at Chillingham Road and a year living in Whitley Bay. Whitley Bay was probably the best year, but Chillingham Road is a nice place too. I went back there the other day and saw someone I used to know and just got this... chilled feeling, you know?
As for Empire, you ain't missing much. The whole magazine seems to be reprinting bits from their site forum these days.
I'm probably being a bit over-cautious about Match Point because deep down I do really, really want it to be good, but the extended trailer wasn't as much fun as the teaser. The blackmail plot looks a little bit hokey and the sex in the rain is corny-looking. But the reviews have been consistently great, and it's so much fun to watch Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Scarlett Johanssen make out. Their lips look like two water-beds having a fight.
The New World... ack. Maybe I have a low tolerance for mystic Native American piffle, or maybe it's the fact that every single scene in the trailer takes place during a light drizzle. On reflection, it's probably the awfulness of Malick's The Thin Red Line lingering in my mouth like an unpleasant aftertaste. An aftertaste that has occasional poetry recitals and tends to baby birds.
The whole slew of new US political films is interesting to me - Syriana, Good Night. And, Good Luck, Jarhead, I'd like to see the lot. Some of the negative reviews of Jarhead are actually rather enticing - when they say it's essentially apolitical, episodic and kind of meandering, it sounds like a pretty good reflection of the book, which is more about subjectivity than any kind of political overview (and actually manages to fire off some very acute observations while doing so).

Good luck with all the LJ catching up!

I assume you'll be catching the excellent Syriana when it hits your shores? (Jarhead is pretty unique, as well.)
