Oh, you have to write the descriptions yourself. I'm afraid that would put me over my daily allowance of "work"...

So instead you thought you'd stretch out my friends page like it was taffy?

ah, peter cook. next to peter sellers, cook is one of my favorites of all time. I kept an article about him that was written for the new yorker magazine not long after his death. incredible mind.

Cook is perhaps my all-time hero. My copy of Harry Thompson's biography of him is rapidly falling to pieces because I read it so often and love it so much, even when I find myself gritting my teeth angrily over Thommo's dismissal of ninety per cent of the Derek and Clive material.

dismissal?? is he MAD? based upon what? how disappointing to find this out, although I'd like to read that biography myself at some point.

...Come Again is, apparently, "rubbish, and nasty rubbish at that". This from the man who later masterminded Monkey Dust, with its torrent of hi-hi-larious paedophilia and cottaging jokes.

Sorry, that was unfair. There were no jokes in Monkey Dust.

That minor irritant aside, it is an excellent book, and I also reccommend the collected edition of his scripts and writings, Tragically I Was An Only Twin, if only because it contains excerpts from his awe-inspiringly good 70s newspaper column.

My Grandad is called Peter Cook and sometimes I think he doesn't realise that he isn't the Peter Cook.

I want to meet him now. Is that odd?

Ahh no you don't. He's a bit of an asshat. He doesn't much like me and takes great pride in making jokes which really put you down.
He's a bit of a bastard really.
But far too clever for his own good, he writes alot and does radio things and tracks people's family histories for them.
Hmm.

I do too. The one for "flirty" is a particular gem.

Oh, it's not every individual student. My hate is scattered widely across a broad spectrum.

When, on my first night in the Union Bar four years or so ago, I spent the evening being grilled by two gawky freaks about how many of my housemates I'd slept with before two solid hours of eight-year-old Princess Diana jokes, it really set the tone for an adversarial and contemptuous relationship with the UK student body that continues to this day. "Teachers and schoolgirls' night"? Oh, do fuck off and die of cancer.
