Amazing as always, you capture the bittersweetness of their relationship as perfectly as always.

A recent post on harryhermione has me wondering what you think: is Harry or Hermione be the one holding back on turning their friendship into a relationship? I imagine one's waiting for a sign from the other, but who do you think is the most reluctant to make that move?

Thanks for the long reply! I really enjoyed reading your insight into this. Authors should do more behind-the-scenes thought processes more often.

It's funny - I never actually think about any of that when I'm writing. I usually just get a sentence or a scene in my head and it grows from there. Occasionally, it's something like this, where I literally open up the 'post to journal' box and write it out in half an hour. Sometimes, a scene will grow and become other scenes and even vague plots ( ... )

From the first to the last word: Absolutely wonderful. You captured the tone excellently. I imagine this is exactly how Harry would think, and that he IS the type to dwell on the "What Ifs." Brilliantly, brilliantly done.

Will I ever get over loving that you can cut right to the crux of the biscuit? No, of course not. In this case, it's got me overthinking because of something I read that's along the same line of what if, yet for a different species.

Have you by chance read anything by or know anything about Amy Hempel?

Thanks for the opportunity to sink briefly into pumpkin land.

I do not know this Amy Hempel of which you speak. Educate me!

And you're quite welcome. I've been reading the new Rowling and while it is NOTHING like Potter (except for it is, obviously, hysterical), it's gotten me thinking about them again. Plus trying to finish this fic I've had going for over a year now. They're being particularly stubborn.

I forgot about the Rowling book, but good to hear, being hysterical sounds good.
I decided to check into Amy Hempel because someone mentioned that she says big things in small sentences. After reading reviews, that big things was the one that pulled me. Had to order a book, Barnes & Noble only carried a book was a collection from Southern writers
in 2010. She seems interesting and kind of unexpected. We'll see.

I moved into a new phase of feeling about Harry and Hermione awhile ago (a phase that this fic resonates with) which is that it's inevitable one of them will eventually break down and declare their feelings.

I agree with you about Harry - canon suggests that he's the one who's more likely to eventually go 'sod it - this is how I feel'.

I had a comment on this ficlet before that was flagged as spam for some reason. Did you get it? I only ask because it had a link to a fic I think you'd really like - it shows the same kind of thinking about Harry/Hermione that appears in your fics.

See - that's the funny thing. I think Harry would get a clue earlier, but I don't think that necessarily means he'd actually say anything. Because of the aforementioned tendency of his to try and do the thing that other people want without thought for himself. Even if he wised up, he'd look at Hermione and see her happy with Ron and just...not say anything. I honestly think she is the one who'd have to say or do something first. But I think he would realize first.

I did get the other one! I saw it come through via email and then couldn't find it when I got back on lj. I thought you'd deleted it or something.

I did enjoy that fic, actually! It's one of the only H/H fics I've read that make some sense to me. I usually start reading things and think 'Who ARE these people?!' Because, apparently, I'm a giant effing snob. *g*

Maybe, but the thing to remember is that at the end of the series, epilogue notwithstanding, Harry is only seventeen. His adult personality isn't formed yet and I personally feel that he's got a few life lessons left to learn - particularly the one about it being okay to put yourself first sometimes. My headcanon is that sometime after Voldemort's defeat he reaches breaking point on putting other people first. And, without saying anything against Ron, I just don't see a relationship between him and Hermione working out. As far as Ron/Hermione is concerned neither of them is what the other really needs (or even truly wants, I think).

I will forever want to read your Harry & Hermione. The last paragraph is what really got me...like you said, I bet Harry is full of a lifetime of 'what if'. He's probably got how deal with it down but this is now 'I wish' which is a whole 'nother kettle of fish!

I hope things are going well for you, parker. <3
