The ship lands quietly and without fanfare. Sunghee stares out the window at the the alien landscape, though they are the aliens on a planet that is not Earth. She reaches blindly until her hand finds Sungmin's. He grips it tight, as scared and excited as she is.

Hundreds of years have passed since they left Earth, since they were put to sleep in the cryochambers. A few weeks earlier, they were all brought back to life, as one of their leaders likes to say. Sunghee doesn't appreciate the image, she knows she wasn't dead, just sleeping.

Sungmin pulls her close, his arms wrapping around her, bringing her out of her thoughts. Soon they'd done their spacesuits and go exploring. But for now they can only stare at the lush greenery outside their ship.

Sunghee remembers reading about the planet they were traveling to. She'd read it before they slept and then again in the weeks after they woke up. She knew what to expect, but she hadn't really believed it. And now that they're really here, she wonders if she's still in cryosleep and dreaming, though no one dreams in cryosleep.

Sungmin presses a kiss against her neck and she leans back against him. She wasn't going to sign up, but when he did, she knew she couldn't leave him. They'd been together for a few years before the government came calling. He'd already done his service and she had done some, too, it's where they met.

They had families, lives back on Earth, but with the world heading toward the edge of disaster, people had to leave. And so, they signed up. Their families were rewarded and Sunghee hoped that they lived long, fruitful lives, though she didn't know the condition of Earth since they'd left. She hadn't wanted to know.

On her communicator there's are video letters from her family. She hasn't watched them and knows that Sungmin hasn't watched his, either. Maybe, one day, when they're settled on this planet, they'll watch them. Maybe they'll send letters of their own back to Earth, to what's left of their relatives. Maybe, one day, they'll meet them.

But for right now, Sunghee can only really concentrate on the planet in front of her, the future waiting for her outside the wall of this ship, and Sungmin, next to her.
