30 day short fic challenge: 22. Delirious - Yoohwan
Title: 22. Delirious - Yoohwan

Yoohwan is sick. He can feel the fever burning him up and he knows there's no way to stop it. He thinks about lying to Sungjong, telling him to stay away from him, but he knows it's no use. Even if Sungjong would (which he won't), Yoohwan knows that it's too late for both of them.
The hospital admits them immediately and isolates them from everyone else, and each other. It's only Yoohwan's begging, and the test results, that result in them sharing a room together. Yoohwan is grateful and he knows Sungjong is, too.
They share a bed, sometimes, when the fever isn't too bad and the nurses don't chastise them. Yoohwan is happy, in spite of his sickness, that they are together. He'd hoped, when one of them finally got sick, they'd both get sick together. He was worried it wouldn't happen, but it did and he's weirdly pleased.
And now they wait. The fevers will work their way through them, changing their bodies into something else. They'll be human, but only just. Yoohwan doesn't understand how it works, he just knows it's happening when things stop making sense. When they have to keep Sungjong away from him, because Yoohwan doesn't know him.
No, that's not right. He knows Sungjong, he knows everything about him and he doesn't know him at all. The doctor tell him this delirium will pass, that they'll return to himself. He clings to those words, to the glimpses of Sungjong through the window of the room he's locked in. It's all he can focus on, when the pain of his body changing itself is nearly too much to bear.
And then one day he wakes up and feels fine. He feels better. Better than ever. The nurses and doctors come in and examine him, declaring that the danger is passed. He can be released. He asks to see Sungjong. They take him to a room, like his old one, where Sungjong is going through what Yoohwan just completed.
They are only days apart. The worst is over for Yoohwan, but he knows it's a lie. He stays in the hospital, sleeping on a cot outside Sungjong's room. He talks in whispers to him, through the door even though he knows his boyfriend cannot hear him. And then the delirium has passed, again.
Sungjong returns to himself and they return to their flat, to their lives. They are different, though they won't know how different for a few months. All they know is that they survived because of each other, with each other.
