If Sungjong doesn’t concentrate, his fingers leave trails of glitter on whatever he touches. Sometimes it’s fun, like birthday parties or other holidays. He can control the texture, the color, even the size. But sometimes it’s not fun. Like when he’s lost in thought at work and he looks down and his desk is a mess of glitter. It’s not just that it’s hard to clean up - it gets everywhere. It’s more that it’s frustrated, because of all the gifts, his is the most useless.
His friends can fly or create objects from nothing. One of his friends can start fires with a snap of his fingers. But not Sungjong. It’s just glitter.
When he goes out with his friends, he’ll wear gloves, it works well enough. But sometimes when he goes to the bathroom, he’ll pull them off and glitter will be everywhere. He’s lost boyfriends because of it, some girlfriends too.
They don’t like the glitter because it’s not right. It’s not useful. He’s lucky his office job doesn’t care. He’s known a few of the gifted to get fired when their gifts got out of control. But there’s not much trouble, aside from messiness, that glitter can cause.
Sungjong meets Jiwoo when he’s out with his friends. Her gift is cooking. She hates it, he finds when he asks her about it, because she hates cooking, she never has. She makes him show her the glitter and, to his surprise, she loves it. While the rest of their mutual friends are drinking, he sits next to her, on the steps to a close shop next to the pub, and demonstrates his gift.
She makes him cookies the next time they meet. They’re the best cookies he’s ever had.
He doesn’t know when they start dating, but he stops calling her noona soon after. She tries to cook for him, but he won’t let her. Instead, she buys him disposable gloves and they cook together.
Before Jiwoo, Sungjong hadn’t really understood that he could be happy. Comfortable, appeased, yes, but not happy. Jiwoo lets him be himself and he hopes he does the same for her. She shows him that his gift isn’t useless. When they go out clubbing or to shows, she adds a little glitter to her make up. Sungjong thinks she looks beautiful.
