Jongup stands outside the courthouse, with the rest of the crowd. He belongs there, no matter what anyone else thinks. He can't stand the injustice any longer. He should be behind bars, too, if they want to arrest protesters. But he wasn't caught, just by coincidence. He'd been separated from Youngjae for a minute, maybe two, but that's all it took for the police to come barreling out and arrested most of the crowd.
He shouted, along with the people surrounding him, blood boiling with every word. He wasn't even allowed to visit Youngjae, not even talk to him on the phone. And Youngjae's parents, they will probably never let him see Youngjae again. It wasn't his fault that Youngjae was in prison, it wasn't his fault that his boyfriend's parents didn't like him. Didn't like that he was a boy.
A man stepped out of the court house, Jongup recognized him immediately, it was the chief of police. He was going to make a speech, Jongup thought. The crowd around him roared to deafening levels and Jongup was right there with him. Eventually the noise level dropped and the chief spoke to the reporters flanking him on all sides.
Jongup didn't know what he said, he couldn't hear over the murmur of the crowd. But word filtered back. They were letting the prisoners go. Apparently someone had talked some sense into the judge and police chief. Jongup sagged in relief.
He watched the chief return back inside, followed by reporters who weren't allowed to enter. An hour later and the crowd still hadn't thinned. But then the doors opened. Jongup expected to see the chief, but he didn't. Instead he saw tired looking people, around his age, and that's when he realized who they were. He pressed forward, along with everyone else.
At first he didn't see Youngjae, there were too many people, but then he did. He threaded his way through the crowd until he was close enough. He shouted Youngjae's name. Somehow, miraculously, Youngjae heard him. They found each other in the crowd.
Youngjae's mouth found his and Jongup didn't care about the cameras or the reporters or even Youngjae's parents. This is what they were fighting for. Let the world see, Jongup thought and kissed Youngjae harder.
