i don't much like war.

So, I finally sat right down and watched Joyeaux Noël.Everybody, I think, has some sort of knowledge of the events of Christmas Day, 1914, so I won't go into that. I didn't, however, know how harsh the consequences were for those who took part in the ceasefire ( Read more... )

I don't think anyone really likes war, if they did they would be insane. (literally) I'm sure that Hitler enjoyed war...

Sometimes war is needed though, if we didn't have war, I'm sure you would be speaking German and I would be speaking Japanese. So I think that in some cases it's a good thing.

I'm not saying that it's not necessary to defeat certain enemies at times. But I think that there have been totally unnecessary wars throughout history. And I think that the way war is carried out, not so much now but in the past, is totally ridiculous. I'm not going to pretend that I know much about it, but I don't think the First World War did much good. No one really knows what it was all about. It was supposed to be the war to end all wars, but was it? No. Twenty years after it finished, another war was breaking out between the same countries. So I don't think that WWI did any good whatsoever. It just put off what could be described as the inevitable ( ... )

Believe me, I have studied a lot of stupid wars...we studied the American/Spanish war yesterday and that was a STUPID war. I haven't gone over WWI yet, but from what I remember, the German's had a depression around that period of time and they blamed the Jews (Because all of the Bankers back then were jews.) So that's when the tension began ( ... )

p.s. Why should we have U.N. backing when Sadaam didn't follow the UN Sanctions and Laws? It's like we're held to a different standard, when we're apparently supposed to be "equal". (I personally don't like the UN, they get paid for sitting on their butts all day lol...)

All Quiet On the Western Front brings a tear to my eye because it proves that human beings, despite all our differences, are very much alike, but sadly, this world is run by monsters, and it just breaks my heart that nobody has learned anything at all throughout the years - I want to see Joyeaux Noel, as it does look touching and wonderful - at least those soldiers had a moment of joy and peace, even if it was brief. :/

That's the point I was trying to make in this post, even if it was very badly worded. Here in the UK, we're taught that the Germans were monsters but no, the men who fought on that side were ordinary men - and they were taught that the French and British were monsters. We're all alike when it comes down to it. We all want the same things - security, love, peace, freedom and family.

What makes me mad though is that we're taught how bad the Blitz was - yet we did far more damage in one night of bombing in Dresden than they did throughout the entire second world war. And I'm sure you're taught all about the savagery of the Japanese, but learning about some of the things that the US soldiers did to them - I dunno, I'm not saying that anybody's behaviour was justified, it's just that everybody was equally guilty.

Yeah, they talk about Pearl Harbor, but I thought dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a far greater atrocity, its effects still being felt today :/

Everyone is evil in war, with rare exceptions of people showing compassion to any human being, regardless of whatever side they're on. War is horrible, it's terrible and it's destroyed families, and I don't understand how people like our president can be so gun-ho about it, you know? Disturbs me - doesn't he see the suffering of not only the soldiers, but of the Iraqi people today? Just ridiculous.
