Map of the "square and stationary" Earth

My coworker went on vacation to the Dakotas to take a tour of where her grandparents and parents used to live. At one point, they were in a schoohouse that her grandma went to, which had been converted into a museum.  Hanging on the wall was this map, created by Orlando Furgeson in 1893.

I'm still none the wiser as to whether the Flat Earth Society folks are sincere or not. I thought it was obviously a clever pisstake when I first heard of it, but a lot of what I've subsequently read makes it seem like some of them really believe what they say. Then again I suppose it's not that much more crazy than a lot of other commonly held beliefs.
