Good Cop, Bad Cop, Introduction and Chapter 1

It's here! What better to celebrate American Independence Day than . . . posting a fanfic about an anime series set in Japan? Oh, well. Here's my foray into the world of Death Note, as I take on one of the show's many raging plot holes. Blame valmora for encouraging me in this pursuit.

And L is just like, "LALALA I PRETEND I DON'T KNOW AND MEANWHILE I SCREW WITH YOUR HEAD!"

And it's so clear when he's doing it, too. That was one of the little details about the show that were kind of . . . I don't know. L totally gets this weird little tone in his voice whenever he's being disingenuous, and the police are just dumb enough not to notice it.

Also, THE COWBOY IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

This being the early fall of 2006 (based on the nice weather and school starting), it's probably a couple of weeks before the electorate delivered that gigantic smackdown to the Current Occupant, turning Congress Democratic and forcing Rumsfeld to resign. The Current Occupant was acting especially irresponsibly at that time, as I recall, which is part of what contributed to the Election Day smackdown.

Interesting. I didn't hear that in the Japanese, but then, it's not like at the time I understood any (I still don't, really, argh). I mostly look at his facial expressions, which DEFINITELY change.

To my regret and probably also yours, the author of DN has stated unequivocally that L never actually considered Light his friend because he suspected him, and that when he said Light was his friend he was lying. It's in volume 13 of the manga, the encyclopedia volume.
I personally have difficulty believing it but have to accept its canonicity because any arguments I find not to believe it hinge upon its out-of-the-actual-work status, which would mean that I also couldn't acknowledge the canonicity of Dumbledore being gay for the same reasons.

It may be only on the dub, which I watched because it was what was available on YouTube at the time.

Sorry. Sometimes people you have to deal with in a retail setting really ruin fandoms for you. :(

Anyway, I don't know anything about the show/movie (or any Anime at all for that matter)except for what the merchandise looks like, but from your fic, I'm guessing it's a Hell of a lot better than Naruto! haha

Even though I have no idea what's going on, I still am curious as to what's going to happen next. It's a little like a brutal, Japanese Anime version of Law and Order!

Never having seen Naruto, I can't comment on its merits relative to Death Note. But I did enjoy Death Note, even if it was riddled with plot holes and got somewhat slow towards the end. I did two long posts reviewing the anime -- they should be tagged with its name -- if you want to get a basic idea, and if you get a chance, the first few episodes are certainly worth seeing.

That was part of what attracted me to the show in the first place. One aspect of it is a police procedural, except that the crook they're trying to catch is using supernatural means, which throws them for many episodes.

Judging by the people who buy Naruto merch, you're not missing anything. They're one step up from Pokemon kids.

Do you think the episodes would be on NetFlix?

Some of the episodes are out on NetFlix. At least enough to get started.
