Speaking from a lay person's point of view, I seriously wonder if the way our gahment is managing the country's finances is really effective or efficient

Actually, I wonder what are the various schemes that are out there for the lower income groups now and how they "qualify" as lower income groups and if anyone actively goes out searching out these lower income groups? I know that there are social workers etc, but a lot of these lower income groups are probably illiterate and do not know how to ask for help. They may also be sick and not able to go out to get help. Do give this a read. http://trisha-reloaded.blogspot.com/2006/10/2-hours-that-change-me.html... )
That post is really good. It is indeed very frustrating when the gahment keeps up with the 'we are helping, we are helping' tune when every turn you take, you see people who don't seem to be getting the help they need.
Once again, I am sickened by the things the ruling party does.
What can we say? Are our voices heard in the first place? Mr Brown didn't even criticise gahmen but just stating facts, still can get kick out from the column writing...
i refuse to read those political pages anymore lah... All craps..every body knows that the reasoning of increasing GST so that they can 'help' the needy and aging population is weak, but what can we do but just accept the fact?
After all, 60% of the population still wants them. So if cost of living went up due to their decision, who to blame?
YOu're right about how much red tapes and rules before you get handouts, after all when you needs money, they will make you beg for it.
who cares if your family has three old folks to feed, with two requiring frequent hospital trips and stays, mounting bills to pay, two children to look after?
Well, we can either choose to go down without a fight, or we can go down fighting tooth and nail even though we know that the chances of winning is nil. : ) Write to the government, make lots and lots of noise, make their lives very uncomfortable by all the feedback, vote against the PAP the next time, etc. It may seem like small efforts and hardly causing a dent. But hey, like they say in Chinese, a tall building also must start building from the ground.
If we don't do anything at all and simply lament about 'nothing we can do' and 'accept our fate', then things will never ever change.
Contrary to popular perception, the people do have a choice, no matter how small.
it will take a while before anyone will take action. Nowadays only those young generation will voice, i believe our society is changing but it takes time, but I doubt it will be during our time.

Already told you, they want to cut corporate tax further. This is for sure one. And when corp tax is cut, the highest tax bracket for personal income tax will soon follow. At the same time, they may even be reviewing the estate tax because there has been calls for its abolishment. So that means must find money from elsewhere. Where else but GST? Notice all these are 'rich people tax'. So what you get is the rich getting tax cuts whereas the poor getting heavier tax burden.
Does this sound like the Bush administration to you?
