Catholic Church officials will still be against this because they believe that every single stem cell *could* potentially become a person and is entitled to "right to life." IMHO, the "leadership" is taking it all a bit far in an "every sperm is sacred" kind of way.

That's one of the policies that I will likely never understand the reasoning behind. There are countless conceptions that could become a human being, but for various reasons never do. There are thousands of eggs, sperm, and other types of cells that "die" everyday. One cell is not human life and, it's not even covered on Constitutional "right to life" until birth when citizenship is given.

And it's why my brother annoys me so much with his every abortion = murder stance. He doesn't distriguinsh between an embryo and a baby. However you can't get a SSN for an embryo for a reason.
