Netflix update

I finally finished watching the Harry Potter movies. I really liked the hippogriff and dragons in the last two movies. I really want a pet hippogriff now! To fly on the back of one of them like Harry did in the movie would be pure bliss. But, doing that one the back of a dragon would be even nicer...just as long as it isn't an orny dragon like ( Read more... )

I think you'd enjoy the Harry Potter books more than the movies. There's more depth and character development in the books - and they're darker. Plus they're each a very quick read, so it's possible to read them while you're in grad school. :-)

I'd definitely need very quick reads. I haven't had time to read any books for fun this year yet. I'm a few paragraphs into a book on competing in AKC obedience and a few pages into a book by bell hooks on emancipatory learning, but that's it for my literary accomplishments in 2007.

We just finished watching it. It was interesting, but I was a bit disappointed because most of the science presented were things I already knew from my Environmental Issues & Public Policy class or from TAing a course on Ecology to non-majors--both heavily featured global warming. Gore's monologues about his life (although relevant to points he was making) were annoying. It seems like the film is half on global warming and half about Gore's life.
