The Sins of the Fathers chapter 9 3/4

Oct 09, 2011 12:57

this wasn't a chapter that I had planned to write, but given the various threads that were with him the story seemed a sensible thing to do so. However, given the first batch of reviews at Phoenix song, I'm beginning to wonder ( Read more... )

Well, well...I guess it's Bellatrix that is wishing Ginny ill. LOL. Loved the woes inflicted by Bellatrix on the Weasleys. "...even the twins had to shut the shop after it flooded one night." Funny! OK, so the Auntie that has the hots for Harry is making Ginny ill. Oh I think Ginny will survive this, and get her revenge..

The woes of the Weasleys don't come from Bellatrix, especially not Ginny's

I did think it was the Aunt. I also thought it was because the demise of the marriage contract too.

Its the effects of the contract not being fulfilled in the intended manner and nothing else.

I loved this piece. I have always had a bit of ambiguous feelings about this fic, because the characters are so screwed up. But now I think I'm getting in the mood.
I loved Molly's letter. it makes a lot of sense with how their children (Ginny and Ron) behave in this story. Auntie Bella also makes us see that even the one adult that seemed OK in Harry's life is not so and we can understand the poor boy a bit more. I expect you'll give him at least some hope of having a decent life, after all the things he had to endure.
But Ginny really must fight fot him and not against the feelings she has for him.

I think you've identified the key thing; is Ginny going to fight for Harry or give up on him? First step, I think, is to become her own person and then try and sort out which are her own feeling and which are not.

I really enjoyed this 3/4 of a chapter. Especially the end with Ginny getting rid of all the things she bought 'for Harry'. This showed me her coming into herself as an independent person, I think that she will go out into the world and become self-sustained by herself. She won't need a husband or children to be complete, because she'll be a strong and independent woman ( ... )

That's a nice idea, but I don't think that is what is going on here. Harry and Ginny both became ill around the same time, even if the story does not give us the exact date. So was the contract really destroyed? I honestly doubt it. I think it's possible they were able to dissolve the compulsion attached to it, but not the consequences, even though they (Harry and Arthur) believe they have voided it entirely. If it was that simple … no, the original weavers of the contract's magic probably set in place some consequences if the contract was fiddled with.

Where to start?

Firstly, you are correct; Ginny getting rid of the things that she bought 'for Harry' is important and not just for the symbolism. Going forward she is, finally, her own person, and whilst there are many battles ahead, she will fight them on her own terms.

The contract wasn't destroyed; it has to/ had to be completed in someway shape of form. There are various ways in which that can be done including it being rewritten.

As for Ginny's future employment, that is way in the future as far as this story is concerned.

This comment/review is also based on some of the comments posted by Parakletos.

As usual an interesting, well written chapter. The physical side effects of the contracts non-fulfillment are interesting, but nothing was written about the magical effect......

I'm assuming the Auntie Bellatrix, in addition to breaking a few laws, might be trying to make another Voldemort by having her way with Harry....Or she's just really disturbed.

A final speculation, since Ginny shared something with Harry, did the re-write of the contract bond them at some level, since Parakletos commented that the spirit of the contract still needed to be fulfilled.

Sorry for taking an age to respond to your comment.

A lot of very astute comments here which unfortunately means that I can't respond without giving away a lot.

I haven't made much progress with the next chapter yet but I'm hopeful that will change soon.

Thanks for stopping by.
