Hodderscape and other updates

Jan 05, 2016 22:17

I've felt drawn lately to return to LJ to ramble about things - I have become a Facebooker, yes (though honestly mostly a Redditor), but to actually put myself out there makes me not so comfortable.  So I post a lot of dog and food things as a result.   I've decided I need to just be here more often as it is a good place to at least sort of know ( Read more... )

hidden cats, original fiction, my kids, m/m fiction, writing is awesome, dear desk, i want a road trip, hodderscape

Of course I have a deep dark side in me - doesn't everybody? I think the only difference between people is their willingness how they deal with it. Act it out, hide it, look at it and despair, transform it into stories ( ... )

The nice thing about YA fantasy (which is the only YA I read) is it goes pretty dark - I love that. I am writing what is called 'crossover' - it is a story intended both for the teen audience as well as crossing over into adult - bigger themes more darkness, yeah. People die, are mauled by beasts, suffer horribly...the first book is a little lighter, but it will be bad enough. (Hunger Games is YA crossover for instance). Hodderscape required YA submissions to be crossovers - so I think I got that down, oh yeah.

Oh my posts were fun - I enjoy doing them! I have flaked out a few times on Em due to time/mental issues but she forgave me so I will do more. Right now I'm working on my Revisions Plan using my favorite book ever I talk about all the time. :)

More later - am still at work doing billing UGH.

You should totally talk about the revision process you learned from that book at GYWO. *COUGHCOUGH*

The writing space looks great. I go through "moods" in which I'm more productive in one space than in another. Currently my armchair with a tv tray is the place, but sometimes it's at my desk. I think is always depends on how cluttered/noisy a place is.

I love going to B&N - the hubbub is happy making, but I limit that to weekends. I just finished watching Eureka, so no more tv series until I am done with this book. I am joining a gym today though! I have a treadmill at home and am a bit bored by it. Other than that, there will be writing every night by golly - got 1300 last night! I LOVE the pacing spreadsheet!

And oh yeah - I carry that book with me everywhere (so silly I know). I will definitely be using it for more posts!

I'm working through an X-Files rewatch that I'm trying to finish before the mini-series starts. I'm at the start of Season 7 so I'm not sure I'll finish, lol. But that's what I do while I eat breakfast and lunch, and then at the end of the day when I shut down and say, "NO MORE THINKING!" ;) So maybe I can get through the rest of it.

The Pace Tracker is a lot of fun, yes. I'm going to try to use it more this year to track my hours editing. I really want to start getting a baseline for how to include editing as part of a pledge. It might take me a few years to really figure that out, though.

I like that it has hours spent writing. That is a cool feature.

X Files - I have never finished!

I think it's great that you are doing so much writing. Does it help to write it out longhand first? I've really become a first-draft-on-the-laptop kind of person, but there's something to be said for the physicality of writing by hand. Do you think that it changes the story?

And then my son came down and made quesadillas so we ended up talking instead of me writing, yeah. I love the hand writing! I have an hour lunch, and I was just sitting there looking at Reddit, and decided after dragging my laptop back and forth and getting tired of that, that by golly I should try hand writing. It has worked out so well! I write in Moleskins and am on my fourth one. I must of course write in purple after much trial and error of pens. :) Then I try to type it up on weekends. I do expand like crazy as I write it up. So the hand writing is a success. I love where it takes me. It seems a little slow but it is working. And I no longer waste my lunch hours!
