[There is a clatter, and the screen flickers for a few moments. A flash of an apartment, static, blackness, then more static. Slowly, the static fades back into a normal image. It is the apartment again, and Basil's lower body can be seen as he paces rapidly around the room, gray tail thrashing from side to side.]

Bloody hell!

[Basil cocks his head to the side.

[Basil goes quite for a moment, then says something indecipherable. H walks to the NOC, then kneels in front of it. His tabby hair is out, and his eyes are red. He reaches towards the machine, and the screen reaches his eye level as he picks it up.]

Oh...dear.

[With his free hand Basil pushes some stray hairs back behind his ears, then removes a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe his eyes. His voice still has a slight tremor.]

Sir Hellsing. Apologies...And pardon my appearance. I did not realize this was on.

[She just gives him a dry look, but calmly inquires on.]

What's the problem, then? Aside from the obvious, of course.

Is the obvious not reason enough?

[He pushes up his glasses and massages the bridge of his nose. His voice is relatively calm now.]

Paradise...us being brought here...this has obviously been going on for a while; a year at least, but I would not be surprised if it was much longer. Surely people that arrived here before us have been trying to find a way home, but still have not discovered a way back.

If people trying for months or years to travel to their home world have failed, then what hope do we have of doing the same? It could take years, or be so beyond us that we will all be dead by the time a solution is discovered. Alternatively, it could simply be impossible.

[A heavy sigh]

I may never see my family again. My entire life has disappeared.

I wish I could be sure of that. I am not very optimistic about our prospects.

Heh...I have never been much of a singer. Perhaps I will get to cleaning up this mess I have made.

[A small pause.]

You be careful, alright? You can always fine something to hope for.

Are you some sort of... Cat-thing?[ He sounds a little rude, but mostly curious. ]

[Basil clicks his teeth together in annoyance, but resists the urge to berate. After all, he must be a strange sight to those from very different worlds.]

The appropriate term is 'Catkin'. We are a populous race on my home world, distinguished by our feline traits and alternate cat form.

I do...apologize for my undignified appearance just now. I don't believe I introduced myself to you before. My name is Basil Pemberton Padmore.
