One thing was true about Paradisa: there was always something going on. If it wasn't the castle itself it was a person affected by it. That's what Peter assumed had happened to Phoebe. He hoped, anyway. And kept his eyes open for the end of it.

He went to the door and opened it. "Phoebe!" Peter lit up on seeing her.

Phoebe let go of the breath she hadn't even realized she'd been holding. His excitement at seeing her just made everything feel right again.

She wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her cheek against his chest. "Peter. I'm sorry. I hate using the castle as an excuse but, well..." She let her voice trail off.

"I know," Peter assured her gently, resting a hand on her back. "I know." Of course he knew. He'd been through some very bad things since coming here over a year and a half ago.

She smiled, relaxing in his arms. "I'm just glad I didn't do anything too terrible. I don't know what I would have done..."
