Night vision was handy, especially when you were driving a motorcycle. Even if you wear sunglasses at night.

Yes, it was lame, but when she had started out this little ride, the sun was still in the sky. She had just finished giving her a tune up, and wanted to take her for a ride to see how she ran. A quick trip through the business and residential districts turned into a much longer loop around the City as a whole, and when she finished and came to a stop in front of the castle, the sun was already down, and she needed to give it a rest for the day. She coasted the bike to a stop outside the front door and pushed the kickstand down before climbing off and stretching it out.

Her shoulders rolled as she unzipped her leather jacket, and she was pretty sure she was alone, until she heard a twig snap somewhere to her left. Kitty hearing doesn't miss much.

"Anybody out here?"

Wading through leaves wasn't the funniest activity for Steve. It sent an important and undeniable message to him; he really was here. He hadn't argued with the people he encountered before (it seemed rude when they seemed to think they were genuinely helping him and the Lieutenant seemed even tougher than Agent Carter if that was possible) but, he had his doubts. Going from an army base to a magic castle? Yeah that was a pretty big leap.

He was here staring at it undeniably. Somewhere along the line he lost track of time trying to take it all in. It was huge. How many people were inside?

The sound of a motorcycle broke him from his thoughts. He let his curiosity get the better of him and went to check it out.

"Sorry." He waves at her. He felt like he apologized at least a million times today already. "I was just..." He eyes her motorcycle. "You can really ride that?" He sounds impressed more than disbelieving.

Max never was intentionally mean to a friendly face. This kid seemed pretty harmless, all things considered, and he wasn't one she had seen before. "Yup. This is my baby."

The leaves caused a bit of a problem, but she was dealing with it. "I'm Max."

He stares at her 'baby' a few more seconds before replying. "I'm Steve."

He smiles at her. "Have you been riding this for long?"

"Since I was old enough to drive." Maybe a little younger. She had to be tall enough fit the bike, but there were ways of getting around of it. "Built my first one when I was fifteen."

"When you were fifteen." Steve raises an eye brow. "You must have had one big growth spurt. I don't think I could have even climbed on a bike at that age."

She grinned a bit at that. She wasn't a runt for fifteen, but it did take some doing. "It took some creativity, but I figured it out."

Steve smiles. "Good for you. That's to come in handy here." He glances in the direction she came from. "Are there even any roads out there?"

It was hard to tell now that darkness had fallen and all the leaves.

"Oh yeah, the city's loaded with 'em. Most of them are kind of narrow, but given that this is a motorcycle and not a car, it makes it pretty easy to navigate."

Not that the towns people were all too happy with her when she did, but she needed something to do.

"I think I'll check it out tomorrow." Steve says mostly to himself before smiling sheepishly.

"I'm new here. I've been walking around all day and I still don't think I've seen half this place."

"I've been here over two years, and I still don't think I've seen all of it. Doesn't help the fact that things are always changing either."

"What do you mean?" He's getting the feeling it isn't construction work.

"Castle's magical," she said with a shrug. "We could wake up tomorrow and be on a beach in Maui with the krakken doing laps at the sand bar -- possibilities are endless."

"That explains the pencil coming out of thin air." Steve shakes his head. He doesn't know how he's gotten into this.

"I can't say I'd mind Maui."

"Eh. I think it's overrated," she shrugged. "Personally, I'd just be happy with a place that was a little bit closer to home."

Home being Seattle. Which -- a lot of people would find odd, because who would want to live in Seattle.

Steve would take Brooklyn over Maui any day. It was home. That makes him curious. "Where's home for you?"
