Max doesn't sleep.

It's weird for a lot of people, she knew that, but sometimes it's handy. Like when Dean's trying to get some sleep on her couch, and he's about to be sneak-attacked by a four year-old that Max thought she was never going to see again.

There was a near silent blur over to catch Joanne over her arm and pull her close to her chest. "What do you think you're doing, kitten?"

"Pouncing on Daddy?" she said with a completely innocent face, and Max shook her head with a sigh, before starting to walk her over to the kitchen counter.

"Not this morning. Daddy's had a rough week. Just let him sleep for a little bit." Joanne flashed her a pout, but Max just shook her head and plopped her down on the stool. "Waffles or pancakes?"

"Waffles! Can I help?"

"Sure thing. Just sit tight, alright?"

"'Kay."

Dean stayed at peace until the smell of food wafting past him eventually caused him to stir. He was a sucker for cuisine and it had been so long since he'd had a home cooked meal so that penetrating his senses was nicer than getting a break from the recurring nightmares. Dean shifted over the couch and moved his hand to cup over the line of his brow and past his nose.

"Can I pounce him now?"

"No," Max said with a bit of a look. "Eat your waffles."

There was a stack of waffles that was probably way higher than a normal group of people could eat, but when you're cooking for two X5's, especially a little, and a guy with a bottomless stomach, you make as much food as possible, because it's all gonna go anyway. Max handed Joanne the syrup before sitting down to eat some of her own, keeping an eye on her daughter from the seat.
