He reaches over to clink his mug with Babs', and then Xena's. Here's to that.

In an unexpected and rare fit of openness, he gives voice to the one pang in his heart. "If only..."

... and then he promptly deflates, and lets it vanish away. "... Nah. This is fine."

While she certainly understands not wanting to talk about things, Xena cares. Why wouldn't she be concerned? She may not be the best at this, but she's going to try. So she leans forward a little and gives Roy a questioning look.

"If only?"

Barbara straightens slightly, gazing at Roy with gentle expectancy. After a moment, quiet but firm, "You can tell us, Roy."

"Oh, well, you know." A glance back at Xena, slightly apologetic; yeah, Babs knew most of this crap about him. "I just - it's getting toward Christmas, and..."

And he couldn't stand it, how stupidly selfish it was to feel sad here, with them, but there it was. He stared into the fire, and sighed it out. "Just another one I'm spending without Lian."

Xena leans against him a little more, as if to assure him there's no need to be apologetic, and looks towards Barbara. Does she know who he's talking about?
