Maya took her time, meandering her way through the city streets. She didn't want to keep Cagalli waiting, but at the same time everything here was so new to her. Of course, that really only served to remind her that everything like this would be gone in her own world. Not quite yet in her own time, but soon enough....
She shook the thought off. She was here to have some food with a friend and try to not think about that. She rounded the corner and spotted Cagalli a moment later. She gave the younger woman a wave and walked over, "Cagalli! How are you?"
Upon hearing her name, the blond looked up and smiled in her greeter's direction. She closed the journal and stood up. Whether Maya was actually happy, Cagalli wasn't able to tell, but she was pretty sure she wasn't. She wanted to make sure she didn't think on things too much.
"Not too bad. It's good being able to tell people are coming back alright. The journals are useful for that," she responded as she held hers up a bit.
Now, normally, she would have asked how the other woman was in return. This just didn't seem like the appropriate time to ask that to her. Instead, she'd try to keep the conversation on the more positive stuff. People coming back from the dead may or may not fit that category, though. Oh well.
Maya patted her handbag, "They're rather useful, I know. Although I have no idea how they work. Magic, I suppose."
Which was odd to think of, but Maya was starting to understand that nothing could really surprise her here. It seemed like just about anything was possible.
"And until I started seeing it, I wouldn't have believed that people could... actually return from the dead," she replied. It was actually rather encouraging that they could, but it was still rather morbid. The murders hadn't been pleasant either.
"Magic is what everyone seems to agree on. It's also the only thing that makes some sort of sense to me. Not that magic really makes sense..."
Cagalli trailed off before laughing a bit. This place really was full of weird things. Losses, journals, world changes, and more. The whole magic explanation actually was the most plausible. She was just happy she wasn't the type of person who needed to make sense of everything. If she was, her head would have fallen off a long time ago.
"People can be dead back home and still come here. It's sort of a mixed blessing if they have someone who cares about them here. They show up, but there's always the chance of leaving," the girl said.
She paused and grinned, "Follow me. I've eaten there once or twice before. To be honest, I forget the name exactly. It's Something's Eatery. The location really stands out, though. You'll see when we get there."
When she finished speaking, Cagalli motioned for Maya to follow her and started off into the city.
