Sasuke gripped the edges of the book until his knuckles turned white from the strain, his nails digging into the hard covers as he slowly sunk to his knees. His mouth twitched as he attempted to force words out, any words, but his vocal cords wouldn't budge, it seemed. Instead, noises akin to whimpers came out ( ... )

Knowing that you are about to die was probably one of the worst feelings anyone could ever experience. He, himself, had experienced it so many times before, but was lucky and came out alive. This feeling was a different, because he knew for sure that he was going to die. There would be no one to save him in the nick of time, a fluke that would work to his advantage, anything. He did not have the power to alter time and save himself so he could live and carry out his mission. He didn't even have the pleasure of having the option of going back home, to his loved ones, if he should accomplish that mission open anymore ( ... )

From the moment Naruto had burst into the room, he didn't move an inch. His face remained in its state of total shock and utter disbelief at what he was seeing. He had expected Sasuke to be upset, angry, and violent to an extent, but not this... broken. It was as though someone had just ripped any calm life out of Sasuke and left him in a bitter shell of pure madness. Naruto had never seen him this distraught before. Yes, their fight at the Valley of the End had definitely been one of Sasuke's craziest moments, but now that seemed like nothing compared to what Naruto was currently witnessing ( ... )

He could sense Naruto coming closer, but he remained where he was, doing his best to refrain from screaming or even weeping at the thought of letting his family down. His heart was pounding against his chest at an unbearable speed, his hands were shaking uncontrollably, and try as he might, he couldn’t calm himself down. The knot in his chest refused to loosen. Sasuke could handle pain, physical pain, but this type of pain was intolerable. He felt the great desire to rip the knot away and just get it over with, but for now, he had to endure it. The situation wouldn’t have been as bad if Naruto wasn’t there, because he could wallow in his own misery alone, no one there to witness how pathetic he could be. He usually had complete control over his emotions, especially the way he displayed them. He felt out of place, out of his element, even. He was completely vulnerable. Even with his closest (former) friend, he felt uncomfortable with being this open ( ... )

Naruto stayed as he was. He was serious when he promised himself never to let go of him so he silently vowed to endure every punch, every scratch, every kick, every squirm, every scream of displeasure and discomfort. Sasuke could break one of his arms and he would just keep holding on with the other. He could break both and he would use his legs instead. Break those, and Naruto would pin him down with his body. It didn't matter. Sasuke could not be alone like this no matter how much he wanted Naruto to leave. Naruto knew it was just even more damaging that way. No one could handle such pain alone and keeping it inside and barring oneself from human contact made everything a hundred times worse. Naruto knew this ( ... )
