He started at Axel's presence, actually having zoned out so completely that he hadn't sensed his friend approaching. Had he lost it completely?

Roxas tipped his head to glance over towards the redhead, half expecting some kind of lecture or an inappropriate comment about the weather...or even a perverted joke. When he was met with silence, he was a little surprised, though his gaze was so deadpan it would have been hard to tell.

That was when he realized his ice cream was melting, but instead of quickly trying to finish it, he just made a mildly disgusted face and dumped it off to the side before licking his hand clean. It didn't even taste good. It was far more salty than it was sweet today. He'd blame whoever had made the batch.

Axel watched as Roxas let his ice cream fall off the edge of the building and arched an eyebrow; that was definitely unusual. He didn't know what happened in Sora's room, but knew it ended in Roxas's favour. He also knew it was probably only on the physical side that it did. Having a heart made it harder to hurt people without guilt, or without wanting to give mercy. He wasn't sure how regular people dealt with it all the time; he was sick of it after only four months.

Shaking himself from his thoughts, Axel debated, again, on what to say to him. It wasn't exactly easy; both Sora and Roxas were his friends, but Roxas was his best. The only one he felt like he could talk to about anything.

He drew his knees up a little closer, resting his arms across them. "You didn't take the keyblade." It was a simple statement, not even a question; if he had, the weapon would have been sitting nearby, and Axel knew it was nowhere in sight. He paused before sighing, running a hand through his hair. "Why?"

There was a long pause, almost as if Roxas hadn't heard him, before he finally muttered, "I don't know."

His own position was mimicking Axel's, except he was suddenly hiding his face in his arms. The tears were stinging at his eyes again, but he was too proud to let them show. Still, it could be heard in his voice, which cracked as he whispered out.

"I could have killed him. I wanted to. But I saw him lying there, and it was like I was looking at myself. But we're nothing alike! He's so annoying, always thinking about everybody else, and not wanting to fight! And everybody cares so much if he gets injured. Even though he was the one bleeding and broken, it's like I..."

His fingers curled, nails digging into his jeans. "Like I'm the one who lost!"

At first, Axel just nodded, only to realize that Roxas couldn't see what he was doing. He listened until Roxas was finished and took a breath, letting it out slowly, thinking.

"Everybody... cares if he gets injured, sure. But-" He paused. "They all care about you, too, you know. You were important to them before, you still are now. Just because you're different, doesn't make you mean any less to them." Axel scratched the back of his head; he really wasn't good with words sometimes. "They were concerned tonight because... you were the one writing in the journal about the medic going to Sora's room. If it had been the other way around, they would have been worried about you, too."

Axel watched as Roxas' hands bunched into his jeans and sighed. Instead of saying anything else, he simply shifted a little and leaned against Roxas a bit, only enough so that his presence was felt.

"You didn't lose."

He didn't understand at all what Axel was talking about. How could those people care about him when he didn't even really know who they were? He knew who Kairi was because of Naminé, but that was mostly it. Otherwise, they were just names to him.

"I don't like this. What the hell is this? I've never felt like this before. I should have killed him!" Pulling his gloves off, Roxas rubbed furiously at his eyes, being careful with the hand that was bruised.

"But if he dies... Would that mean I'd die?"
