He really came. Somehow, she had hoped he would, but she didn't actually want to believe that he would go through with it. It was easier not to be disappointed when one expected very little at all. There wasn't any time that the young princess could remember anybody doing anything for her of their own free will. Much less pay her a visit. Currently, she couldn't blame them, either. She was well aware that her isolation and stubbornness could have been seen as childish if she complained or said too much. She alone felt it was fully justified and credible to her situation. A circumstance that no one would have been able to understand on her level. It was pointless trying to explain it to anyone, for anyone to feel her hurt after fifteen years of deception and gifts veiled in curses ( ... )

Ah, that was the thing. He hadn't really made it through the briars. They were really quite an annoyance. But perhaps it really could have been worse, just as she was thinking. He couldn't be sure, but that didn't matter. It was Wilhelm he'd be dumping this all on later ( ... )

She bristled slightly behind the barrier that she faced, hands fixed firmly at her sides. Stupid?! He was the one that had come to her in the first place with all of his loaded assumptions! But the longer she watched that closed door, knowing there was someone behind it who wanted to see her, the more its truth would sink in. If he had come for the girl called Idike twice already, would that moment now be his third time? And a fourth and fifth if necessary? Maybe he was really the stupid one. It almost made her want to cry. Almost ( ... )

To say that he wasn't the smallest bit relieved to see that eye peering out at him would be a lie. Still, he could have done without the woman comment. What a preposterous idea. He was far more beautiful than any woman ( ... )
