Inuyasha's hands were tucked into the sleeves of his bright red robe, and he was waiting impatiently by the castle walls for his opponent. Keh, that guy was completely at fault here; he was the one that had insisted upon saying misleading things about having a shard of the sacred jewel.

That was Inuyasha's story, anyway, and he was sticking to it.

He'd used the window to get out, having gotten understandably tired of doors, and been rather rudely surprised by the height of the drop. It hurt more to get yanked down from tall trees by his neck with the subjugation beads and annoyingly embarrassing 'sit!' command... and this was nothing he couldn't survive, of course, but it still stung unpleasantly in the heels of his feet.

He made a face and glanced over when the door was pushed open, before letting the expression twitch into a smirk. Keh, he could beat the crap out of any youkai he wanted at home, why should it be any different here?

"Took you long enough!"

"Twenty-sixth floor," Kougaiji answered with a one-shouldered shrug and a smirk.

He came to a stop in front of Inuyasha, arms crossed. He had trouble believing that some demon from some other world could possibly beat him in a fair fight, especially when there were very few that could rival him in his own world.

After looking his opponent over a few times, sizing up the competition, he cocked his head to one side and asked, "So, why didn't we just do this the first time?"

Inuyasha scowled and shrugged in return. "You didn't have a jewel shard," he reasoned. Despite his response to the guy's question about being a Demon Hunter the other night, Inuyasha didn't take it upon himself to fight youkai unless they had pieces of the shikon no tama or posed great danger to the humans in the area. He just didn't like to admit that out loud, because he usually couldn't get away with saying it without being teased about being a big softie. Keh ( ... )

"Well, I am curious about the shards of whatever jewel you keep mentioning," Kougaiji said, letting his voice trail off at the end. It sounded important, and was probably very powerful considering how driven the silver-haired youkai seemed to be to put it back together. Maybe it was like the sutras that he was questing for, save that the sutras were all -- theoretically -- in one piece...

He paused for a moment, pretending to look thoughtful, and then his stance suddenly changed. In an instant, he changed from relaxed to full-on driven, his eyes turning fierce and his fists surrounded in fire.

"But if you're so ready to start," he added, "then let's." Just to test the waters, he brought back his flame-covered claw and very quickly took a swipe at Inuyasha's chest.

Inuyasha's eyes narrowed for a moment, wary. Demons being interested in the jewel never seemed to turn out to be a good thing, but the fact that Kougaiji didn't have any idea what it was in the first place was at least a little bit of a consolation.

Not much, when he lit his hands on fire.

Keh, a fire demon. At least he wasn't as much of a bitch as the last one Inuyasha'd come across. Princess what'sherface. If Kougaiji could use anything as strong as Naraku's barriers, Inuyasha would be screwed without his Tessaiga.

Digging his heels into the earth, Inuyasha pushed his body backwards to avoid the swipe. He pulled back his left sleeve and bent his fingers. "Icon claw!" he shouted, slashing the air in front of him and sending a set of cutting energy straight for his opponent's torso.
