Valentine was, indeed, bringing Helena over! She had agreed to meet his friend and thus all was well in the world. Asside from Helena being blind and his mask still not having shown up anywhere at all.
But he was not deterred. He, like a gentleman, held the door open for Helena, seeing as, well, she couldn't see it - but if you asked him, he would have opened it anyway.
"Right across the hall. Not far. I'll be standin' with you, so you don't bump into anythin'..." He said quietly, before trapsing over to Carmine's room (while making sure Helena wasn't... not far or wandering off somehow) and gave a hard knock on it with his knuckles.
Helena was feeling better. A bit mortified at the way she had broken down in front of, well, everyone, and still a trifle scared. But Kaylee had said that it would wear off after a week and as childish as she felt about crying in front of Valentine, she was happy that he was helping her through it. It was a horrible, awful thing to have happened. And while she wouldn't exactly admit it to anyone else, Helena was honest enough with herself to admit that it wasn't all bad, not when Valentine was there with her.
She was, however, feeling a mite uneasy about meeting one of his friends. Not because she thought poorly of the friend, but because she knew she wouldn't be making a very good impression, stumbling about and walking into things.
Helena paused in the doorway, listening as Valentine moved out into the hall. Oh, get over yourself and get moving, she yelled at herself, forcing herself to take a step. The second one came more easily
( ... )
Carmine heard the knock, almost just shouted "come in!", thought better of it, and actually got up out of his chair and walked to the door. He opened it, peeking his head out first before widening it as far as his arm could reach.
"Valentine! Good, good. Oh, and you must be Helena! Nice to meet you!" He almost started to hold out his hand then remembered her unfortunate blight. He tried not to frown, failed miserably, and looked at her with concerned eyes.
She seemed well enough though without sight. So his eyes lit up as he looked her up and down once thoroughly. She was kinda cute, but Carmine noted she looked young, too. Keeping things to himself, he gestured towards Valentine.
"Well, get your as-er-behind in here already! And help the lady out, for crying out loud!" He grinned, sparred a wink at the lady who couldn't see it anyway, then turned back to his chair. He didn't sit.
Valentine frowned at Carmine, "Don't you be tellin' me how to be takin' care of me friends, Carmine! I could just as easily not bring your food up here next time, you know," he then laughed, and lightly put his hand back on Helena's closest arm.
"Helena, this is Carmine," he said. "He's a good friend of mine. First person I met here."
In fact, he hadn't even mentioned who they were going to see, had he? Not as far as he could remember. Oh well, no matter. It wasn't all that important.
Valentine waited on Helena to enter first, he was fully intent on just guiding her for now, making sure she didn't get hurt in any form. To Carmine, it was probably obvious that Valentine cared about her. After all, he seemed entirely focused - for once.
