[Kallen yelps as one manages to get her in the upper arm before zooming off again. Grabbing her blanket, she wraps it around herself and glares at the ceiling.]
Ow. Why you little -- [There's an annoyed grumbling from nearby as Rookie sits up, also turning his focus up towards the ceiling while he made a grab for one of his boots.] Guess there goes any chance of sleeping tonight, huh?
Not unless you want to end up a pin cushion! [She's already doing her best to slip into her own boots without getting out from under the blanket's cover.
Too bad it slips and one dive bombs her back.] God dammit!
Think I'll pass, thanks. [There's a loud smack as he beans one that got a bit too close with the boot in his hand, before attempting to do the same.
And then proceeds to yell a few well placed curses when his efforts prove to end in a similar fashion.] What I wouldn't give to have a flamethrower right now.
[You can probably make an exception for evil blood-sucking songbirds, Jr.!
Alleria shoots a few more birds down, then grunts, frustrated.]
You're right; this is taking too long. We do need to get creative.
[She looks around for a moment, then gets an idea -- rummaging through her pack, she comes up with some kindling and rope, which she ties around one of her arrows. And then she grabs a flare from wherever, snaps it to life, and sets her arrow ablaze.
And then she shoots a bird.
Luckily, this actually worked how she wanted, and the bird goes flailing into several others, setting them on fire as well, who careen into others and set them aflame, and so on.
And Alleria just beams up at her work for a moment, shielding her eyes.]
Of course. Blood-sucking finches. How could they be anything else.
[They're much too small for a sword to be of great use. He slips to one of the fires and comes up with a long burning branch that'll work as a makeshift weapon. Maybe fire will help keep them at bay.]
[Fred jerks awake. Sleeping on floors and in cave-like places will never again lend itself to a solid night's sleep even under the best of circumstances.
A glance at her shoulder reveals a tiny circle welling with blood. Even as she studies it, there's woosh of air as something swoops in. Another wound appears. Fred peers overhead, gaze widening]
...that's not good.
[Scrambling free of her sleeping bag she tugs it overhead, trying to determine just what to do next]
[ And she immediately is ducking out of her sleeping bag to slide over to Fred. She'd positioned herself nearby on purpose, just in case Katherine might have tried anything.
Maybe that would have been easier to combat. This? Lana can barely train her crossbow on one long enough to hold a target. Swearing under her breath, she glances over her shoulder to Fred. ]
Get your gun! If enough of those swarm on one person, you'll have a lot more to worry about than a bug bite.
[That swear word, Lana? Fred will meet you there and then raise another. She winces as she watches another of the small creatures crash into someone near by.
Fred reaches for her gun, which she'd been conveniently kept tucked just under her bag]
...do you think...[Someone, somewhere lets out a kiss of pain in reaction to an attack] ...could they have a hive mentality of some kind?
[Fred knows she's over-thinking it. Five years she wouldn't have stopped to work that much through. At least not yet. She had to be faster than that]

[This is said rather calmly, of course; she's already on her feet and casually picking the birds off one by one with her bow.]

I don't know, get creative! Try them at a different angle, are try to use the blankets and rope to set up a tent to shield everyone.

I don't know, Fred, I'm not really a bird expert. I just don't want us to be eaten alive. Can you locate some kind of shelter? I'll cover you.
