A WAY OUT?

There's a small series of altars off to the side of the door, each with a slot for an item.

A rectangle, a perfect fit for a journal.
A cylinder, maybe the size of a can of soda.
A much, much larger gap, misshapen but rectangular.

It does nothing when touched or poked or prodded, but it looks like things should be put in those slots. Certain things.

[ Sadly there is little to watch, because...nothing happens! After a minute he shrugs and pulls his journal out. ]

Maybe it needs to be a specific journal, like the person who built this place. Or not a journal at all. Or maybe they all need to be activated at the same time.

I think we just need to continue on. There's nothing here for us right now.

You wanna start rounding people up to move?

Let's give them a few minutes. Some people are really feeling the effects of this place.

We'll move out in five. Try to dissuade people from taking a snack break. We don't know how long we'll be down here, so we need to ration our supplies.

It feels kinda humid in here at least. Maybe we'll find something drinkable.

If we do, we need to test it first. This was some sort of damn trap, after all. So nice of Damsel to let us know about this area, if that was her.

Maybe she didn't know either. She didn't let me and Stephanie get hurt when she found us...

Maybe. I guess we won't find out until one of us runs into her again.

[Just nods, pressing her lips together. It's not surprising this should happen but the situation is tense.]

[Enter Naruto, pulling random items out of his bag and trying to fit them in the slots.]

Hey, careful there! Don't...force anything if it doesn't fit right away. That stuff might be delicate.

I'm not forcing anything. I'm trying to see if I have anything that will fit.

I seriously doubt anything we have is gonna do the trick. Something like this probably requires a specific trigger.

If it's not something we have then where are we supposed to get the stuff that fits in the slots?

There could be clues further in. Or we could be SOL, and the person who set this place up might have the items we need and they're long gone.

There's gotta be another exit, though. If nothing activates these things soon, we need to move on.
