Day 6

Jun 09, 2009 21:35

It has now been over two months since my arrival in Paradisa. How quickly time passes! I spend the majority of my days investigating this place, and yet I often feel that I know nothing at all ( Read more... )

I don't think we're able to determine where we are from the stars. I've been here over a year and haven't been able to make heads or tails of these stars, and I've looked at a ton of charts from different planets. Nothing matches up...

Over a year? How tiresome it must be to make no headway on the problem ...

Does it seem as though there is data missing from the star charts? Cair Paradisa does have a way of omitting information.

It'll be worth it if something useful does come up, though.

No, everything seems to be alright with the charts themselves... it's matching them to the sky that's the problem. It's like it took all the charts, ripped them up and tried to piece them to each other. ...Or something like that...

I hold out that hope, as well. Perserverance!

How strange ... It is as though this place is as much a patchwork as the residents living within it. But that is hardly a likely theory.

Cap'n Olimar, right? Well, if you know your universe well enough to tell, maybe it's because we're in a different universe. Then the stars don't have to be the same, do they?

Ah, good day, Lyra! A different universe ... I hope I have not travelled a distance as great as that! Space-time can, at times, be more convoluted than it seems.

But it could... overlap or something' with this one. We know about those kind back home. You c'n stretch out yourarm, and you've just touched a hun'rd thousand, but you don't know and people there don't either.

[He considers this for a moment.] What a mystifying thought ...

How does your home world know about overlapping dimensions, if I may ask? On Planet Hocotate, space-time is discussed by the keenest of scientific intellects, but normally left to computers to manage on a day-to-day basis. Such deep thought becomes tiresome!

Hm... Where d'you think our ships have gone, Captain?

An excellent question, Fox. It would not take any great effort to hide a small class of space ship on the sprawling Paradisa grounds ... Although, given the nature of this place, I cannot truly believe that this is a simple matter of locating a missing object. Cair Paradisa seems skilled at keeping its secrets ...

Yeah, after staying here a while you have to think there's more to it. I can't believe it though.. people've been here years, and we've got nothing to go on.

Can't say I like the situation, that's for sure.

Yes, so many talents and clever minds here, all unable to find a satisfactory explanation for how and why we are here ... But from what I have learned by talking with other residents, it definitely seems that magic-like powers are responsible in some way. With so many memory gaps and bizarre occurances, Paradisa often seems like some weird dream!
