I gather there may be fireworks, and some people give money. Sheena did give me money when I visited Mizuho around our last New Year; I'm not surprised to hear that other cultures do the same. And some people make resolutions? Resolutions to do what, I'm not certain.
The holiday itself is an act of bidding farewell to the old and hearkening in the new. An act of page turning in the page by page history of humanity, so to speak. Filled with people making empty promises to themselves that they will fail miserably to keep. In a way, it can exemplify both the best and the worst of a people.
