It seems close enough to a miracle yet it is a human ( Read more... )

Making new discoveries, are we?

[ooc: the journals are magic paper books, actually, so she would have been writing instead of typing! There's a page on them here.]

But will you tell me the ways they are remarkable to you?

Women from the future have a tendency to be much more forward, independent. They know what they want and seek it out without hesitation. They carry themselves boldy and give little deference to men, yet remain graceful and beautiful women just the same. I admired such women in our time, but here they are in abundance.

And you do not begrudge their little deference to you?

No, and we are both happier for it. There's no joy in spending time with someone who enjoys my company only because she must. I'd sooner have honesty than have unhappy submission.

Honesty. That is against the way of the world, is it not?

It is--beneficial, is it not? To know about the party than they know about you?

Life, it is like a game of cards.

[He pauses, wondering if that's supposed to be an underhanded warning or just as kind as everything else that has come out of her mouth. And even if it is just a kindness, it makes him think: is he being too honest about himself? His opinions?

Well, he supposes. As long as she doesn't learn of his real profession...

He brushes it off, tone casual.]

Perhaps, but not everything is about manipulating others, bella. [Teasing:] Do I have something to fear, by telling you about myself?

[ It would be graceless of a woman to warn or threaten a man without being underhanded about it. And Giulia was not the one who taught her that. ]

No, you do not unless--

You will not lie to me, Ezio?

[Way to twist the knife again. He doesn't want to lie to anyone, but sometimes, his goal may require it.]

Of course not, madonna Lucrezia.

[ooc: pssssssst]

You're welcome.

[But moving along:]

I suspect you'll have a great deal more freedom here than you may have had as the Pope's daughter and a brute's wife.

[ooc: pshaw, you deserve it. you're def. my favourite new face.]

I already do. [ She giggles and lowers her voice somewhat ]

At the turning of the year, I danced in the gardens with a beautiful woman until the sky grew light.
