- forty-fifth year waiting - (day shift at the hospital)

[so it's the second day in Paris and Rory is at work as a staff nurse in A&E at Saint-Pierre Infirmerie. He is seriously missing the relative slowness of working at Royal Leadworth; it's nothing like working in the emergency ward of a major city hospital. [Oh, River's got a cut on her forehead that needs tending to. Try as she might to weasel out of this. She's taken to being head of security at the museum quite well. Got to see her boys, protect them, and keep priceless art from being stolen. Which is how she came to have that cut on her head]

[Rory's still running around like a chicken with his head cut off, and at first doesn't pay her much mind, saying over his shoulder to her]

Sorry ma'am, I'm busy--[he's taking some finished charts to the outbox]--you'll have to sign in at the front desk.

[then he realizes she's speaking English, followed by the fact that he recognizes the voice, and he stops and spins around]

River!

[and then he goes into Concerned Father mode. It still feels strange and not-quite-right, and it shows. But he still comes toward her with a concerned look]

River, are you alright? What happened?

[he's examining her head while she talks, hand raised but not quite touching her face, and completely unconsciously gives her a brief, stern glance at that flippancy]

You've got a minor head laceration with some contusions, and musuems are supposed to be boring. You tell me what happened.
