[She's never liked the holidays much, ever since her parents left when she was a teenager. Even if her past few Christmases haven't been so bad. But with Angela's recent disappearance from the castle, Brennan's found even more reason to revert to her old habits and be a hermit, spending all her time either in her room or her lab ( Read more... )

At the very least, it would be an improvement over fairies.

They're certainly...something.

What was that you said about a nutcracker?

Interestingly enough, we celebrated Christmas every year at my school. I suppose we were focusing more on the commercialized Christmas, though.

That does not surprise me very much, Ms. Granger. Christianity has been the most popular religion in Britain since the sixth century.

Yes, well... it really wasn't the religious aspect at all. It was a tradition started by the school's founders. [the mun makes up crap since it makes no sense for a magic school to celebrate the birth of Christ]

The exchange of gifts, as practiced in today's more commercialized Christmas, is not a practice limited to Christianity. Or even Christmas. In fact, the giving of gifts during this time of year also dates back to the Roman fest of Saturnalia.

That too, actually. I've heard some mentionings of last year's events in other people's journals.

[There's a long pause as she weighs Brennan's words]

That must have been very interesting.

I was not here for last year's Christmas festivities. I arrived shortly after, in time for the New Year.

Which, I'll admit, was very interesting. Many of Paradisa's residents were not so capable of holding their liquor.

[oh dear]

...I'm not sure we want to encourage the castle towards orgies.

I would argue that it is more appropriate to the season than sugarplum fairies.

[a small laugh] I think that depends on how you're defining "appropriate."
