[Ted was randomly fliipping through the pages of the journal before deciding to go back to the New Year; about five months before he arrived. He read around until an entry caught his attention. Brow drawn together, he read it, until a curious musing slipped out of him.]

I... don't think anything happened. I mean, something might've happened when I was sick for, like, a month in February, but... aside from that, I think I would've heard of it, you know?

Damn...

Man, you got sick for a month? Yeesh! What with?

I don't know! I just assume that I was sick because I fell asleep one day, and then I woke up and it was, like, three weeks later, and I didn't exactly feel at 100%. I wasn't, you know, majorly sick or something, I was just... asleep for about a month. I've thought it was a loss, but I'm not really sure...

--three weeks?! I hope you haven't had any recurring problems since then!

I've managed to collect a handful of them from residents that were around then that aren't anymore. But I've handed them off to other people who are trying to use them for other important projects.

Like trying to power things in the dead zone, right?

[He's quiet for a moment. Contemplative. And then--]

What's so dangerous about the dead zone? Aside from powers and technology not working in it, obviously.

The Dead Zone is sort of open territory. All those things don't work, but it also makes the strongest people, at least the ones that are stronger because they're not exactly normal, just like everyone else. So if we get attacked out there, by people that aren't affected -- it'd be bad.

There's already a group of people that isn't exactly fond of us.

The first generation, right? And apparently they're really powerful?

Does it have a particular use besides fashion accessory?

Besides the fact that there were apparently hundreds of them and they were all floating in front of the castle?

I don't know. I guess they'd point to-- something.
