it resulted in fourteen blackouts

[Newt's been hanging out and about the castle, mostly keeping to himself. After all, he is the most awkward person in the planet, and he would rather read through the newspaper fifteen times than actually talk to anyone.]

[But luckily, Newt understands he has a problem with this. So, what is he going to do to fix it?]

[Talk about the end of the world ( Read more... )

Well, that's really put a crimp in my day, thanks a lot, Pulsifer.

What? Talking about something you already experience is a perfectly normal thing.

...Even if it is the end of the world.

It's still bloody depressing though. Haven't you got anything happy to talk about? Puppies, rainbows, that sort of bollocks?

Why would I need to talk about puppies for? Everyone knows they're cute, end of story. Besides, this allows people to think about it instead of giving a "yes" or "no" answer.

Ah, yes, "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost. Not a bad poet, as they go. He actually gave pertinent reasons why each would have its reasons for being a proper end to things...

From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Ah, yeah! That's the one. I don't think I really got it as a kid, I always thought the world ending in fire would be a lot more explosive...

But I can see his point now. I bet he didn't expect Tibetans at the end of the world, though...

And why not? They're a part of the world. One would generally expect them to end along with it once the time comes.

I-I don't think you quite understand. I was near London when the end of the world happened. There were Tibetans coming up from under the ground.

When asked, they had had no idea how they got there. They just were digging and turned up on another continent out of nowhere.

[here's some input from someone who had witnessed the world on the verge of ending!]

I doubt those who know would be alive to talk about it, unless they came here after their world came to an end.

Yes, well, it's good to give it a try, isn't it? Because I went through the end of the world, except it really wasn't an end in the end...it was rather anti-climatic, if I remember correctly.

Then, if you'd pardon my asking...how exactly did you know it was the end of the world? [especially when it sounds like the world...didn't really end?]

Because heaven and hell were literally fighting each other and there was a nuclear station that was set to burst, stuff like that.

Also, because there were really strange things happening. And I mean strange.

I guess that depends on whether you believe in fate or not.

Honestly, I don't really think that matters. I don't really believe in anything, and the end of the world still happened. It was quite a shock.

Well, just because one person doesn't believe in gravity doesn't mean everything's going to float.

But I think people put too much stock in that sort of thing, anyway. Fate, I mean. Not gravity.

Um, yeah. Guess that's pretty true...

Maybe. But back where I came from, there was this witch that predicted everything that would happen- and everything she predicted was correct. So I guess everything is already set out for us, then.
