Sixth Mind Read - Seizing the Day (Backdated to a few days after the end of the Headspace plot)

[Having finally found some free time, Charles and Fred had finally decided to stop putting off the date they'd been planning for close to a month. Wheeling himself out of the elevator, Charles wheels himself down the hall. He'd cleaned up as best he could, as he'd refused the help of the ghosts this time, but his was nevertheless smartly dressed in ( Read more... )

[Fred, for her part, is clean. It's a strange thing to note, perhaps, but after nearly a week spent in burlap -- imagined or otherwise -- clean isn't a bad place to start at all. Her favorite jeans and a simple bohemian blouse is pretty close to heaven. So many people will never really know what a luxury comfortable really is.

At the sound of the knock on the tower door, Fred crosses the lobby to answer the it. She smiles at Charles on the other side]

[Fred reaches the door to Caritas and closing the last of the distance she steps ahead to hold it open with a flick of a smile]

People have a tendency to mistrust power, no matter what. That or be envious of it. [One of those things. Less defined by numbers or formulas but there all the same] I think if you want people to trust them it's not going to be as simple as just telling them they can. You've got to keep getting yourself out there, meeting the people who live here.

[And Fred's just as cautious, if not more so, than most of the others. Despite her easy openness to most things, trust isn't something she gives lightly. At least not anymore]

[Charles nods his thanks, before cracking a grin.]

You know, it really ought to be me holding the door for you.

[He rolls in, turning around halfway to face Fred as she comes in behind him.]

Anyway, I suppose that's true. My friends and I suffered such treatment while we were guests of the CIA. Mutual enemies or not, it always felt as though we were walking on eggshells with them, trying to be careful not to say or do the wrong thing.

I've been doing my best with that. Getting myself out there, I mean. It's actually been easier than I thought, with as many here being as used to strange occurrences as they are.

[He signals to whoever's behind the bar right now.]

Two pints of Bank's Mild, if you please.

I don't think I'll ever be the sort you need to worry about holding the door for.

[Fred knows the bartender, of course, and there's a tilt of her head and a brief grin before accepting the beers that were ordered. She offers Charles his, before acknowledging one of the empty tables. It's early enough that everything is still fairly quiet]

This place, it does manage to numb you to certain sorts of things, I think. People tend to stop blinking, seeing them even. But it's good, that you're getting to know them.
