[... She will confront this. And overcome it, the way she's overcome other things, before.
Rin brings Tad with her. The desert is cold, and she hardly trusts the demesne of Legato's mind. She just wants to see, anyway. This coldness and emptiness doesn't come as any surprise.]
[something quietly... sets on edge when she arrives. The entire scenery silently but definitely becomes aware of her presence. It's something in the air that says it, something about the way the sand subtly shifts over the ground. Somewhere, off toward the pillars, something creaks]
[She sighs and gestures to Tad, who crouches to allow her to climb aboard - Rin digs her fingers gratefully in his thick fur, and the two of them pass over the piled bones and grit, exploring a little more of the desolate, ugly world that is Legato's mind. Rin has few words for him, really.]
[as if the footsteps of the beast irritate the skin of the land, a shiver ripples through the sands, and it begins to part with every step... until the crunch of the dog's paws on everything underneath the grit can be really and truly heard.
This effect gets worst, the sand beginning to part to an inconvenient degree, as Rin and her pet get closer to the obelisks]
[She's watching this very warily. Tad's head is low, and his ears pricked forward, as well. Not planning on being caught too unawares... but not turning back.]
[there is further unrest--a quake that rumbles through the earth and air and the swollen bellies of the moons, the creak and angry rattle of chains--and it seems that the dog's legs are going to be mired in the sand at any moment...
Until it abruptly stops. As if the entire world suddenly changes its mind. The sand becomes steady and solid again, covering up the horrible things buried underneath, and everything returns to a hushed stillness.
[Tad snarls and stretches out his gait so that his body weight is distributed over a farther area, when the quake comes - Rin crouches, hanging on as tenaciously as a burr. Her weight isn't much, to Tad.
Still. It's a relief when the shaking stops. Though it makes her wonder what the fuss was about anyway, and what decision took place, as she proceeds.]
[whatever it is, it is enough to say that Legato has suddenly decided that he doesn't mind them approaching, as their movement goes completely unimpeded from that point on.
On they travel in the the only real direction there is to go-- toward the colossal statue, its venerating collection of pillars, and its sole living subject strung up at its feet]
[Tad comes closer, bristling silently, the sand crunching under his paws. Rin studies the pillars with distaste, raises her head to look up at the statue, the glimmering stars.]
[past the blinding light emanating from the statue, the 'stars' buzz. They're all moving and living, plugged in from somewhere beyond this space.
The pillars watch, standing silently by as she approaches. And they do watch. Whatever those milky black planes are containing, it dislikes the fact there are visitors.
And among them, Legato simply hangs. Listlessly suspended across the chasm]

Without moving in further, she calls to him mentally:]
So.

[it comes back as an echo, without direction or feeling or meaning]

So... what did I tell you?

Many things. None of which matter.

[a pause as if considering this space]
This is nothing.
