What's flying like? For those of you who do.

I have a hot air balloon.

[Among other options, but she might wait suggesting those...]

[ Oh. Oh that's interesting. ]

Do you take it up often?

Not very, but if you wanted to make a quick trip, we certainly could.

Who knows if now's really a good time for that.

[ you know how to say yes? BY NOT SAYING YES!

If you wanted to it could be a longer trip too. And if nothing else too crazy is happening, now is a good time.

Define "too crazy" around here. I know some things are on edge, but otherwise it doesn't seem to be much worse than usual, since the cleanup, with other people on edge.

Things are always on edge, but if there's no immediate threat I don't see why we couldn't take some time.

I picked one up because I think hot air balloons and zeppelins might eventually be our best bet for exploring the Dead Zone, and I wanted to practice.

Then now might be a good time, all things considered. What's the mechanism used to generate the flow of hot air for your balloon?

[ what even is a zeppelin? ]

Ah, well... a burner with an open flame. Less scary than it sounds, I promise!

What powers the burner?

Propane. It catches on fire, and then I guess the hot air inside the balloon lifts it up.

haruno July 10 2011, 10:16:14 UTC
Propane is a gas, right?

Reply

payback July 10 2011, 10:18:04 UTC
Yep. But when it's pushed on enough it's a liquid?

Reply

haruno July 10 2011, 10:22:28 UTC
Then it changes states under pressure? I mean, under enough cold, water solidifies, and under enough heat, it becomes a gas. Pressure could work like that too in a way?
