In the City tidalsurge June 25 2011, 18:01:52 UTC
[ Purgatorio is every bit as clean and orderly as it seemed from afar. The streets are narrow cobblestones, not really good for heavy traffic, but most of the action takes place in the numerous canals that criss-cross through town. It's possible to make your way from one place to another on foot, using the sporadic bridges across the city, but it would be much faster and easier to get yourself a boat, wouldn't it? ]

[ Unfortunately, it's a contained system, so no bringing in your expeditionary boats from the ship: you either buy or rent, and it just so happens there's a boat shop right there beside the docks if one is so inclined. There's also bars, restaurants, and hotels galore, so kick back and relax in a lawful and orderly manner. You know, you could rent yourselves just a few rooms to all share. If you look and act like you belong in Purgatorio, most of the people won't deny you services or question. If you pool in your sources, you and your crew can share about three bedrooms amongst yourselves ( ... )

[Allen is wandering through the city, trying hard not to attract too much attention to himself. He mostly seems in awe of this place, even if he is wary at the same time.]

It's like Venice...

Sure is. Pristine and everything.

[he just happened to be nearby and heard him talking to himself--SURELY that's the reason he's here. right? right. a little weird, though, as he appears to be preoccupied with a map.]

[You creeper, Zelman. He'll look over and hesitate just briefly. He still remembers Jr's warnings about this guy...]

You've been there before?

[just because his taunting resulted in the death of a couple innocent people...]

Absolutely. I lived there, for a while.

[Could've happened to anyone, I'm sure.]

Really? For how long?

[He knows this is pointless small talk, but gotta start somewhere]

About ten years, I think.

[he knows it's small talk too, but hey--this is how the game is played.]

I see...why did you leave? [I mean if you can afford to live in Venice...]

It was a little too close to Rome for my tastes.

[specifically, the papacy. things got pretty intense for a few centuries.]

Right. [That could mean a number of things really, but not like he's italy's biggest fan either. ]

..Thank you for the other day.

Hm? [he looks up from his map properly for a moment, as if he doesn't remember what Allen was talking about (maybe he doesn't--it's been a busy week), but then he folds the map in half, giving Allen the better part of his attention.]

Ah, no problem. It was within a mutual interest.

[He'll look over at him, a very small polite smile on his face]

I figured that...I've never seen Riful so angry at anyone before.

[he looks very smug about that.]

It's true--she can't stand me.

Hmph. [he tilts his head, looking to the side.] Because I don't bow to her every whim, among other things.

Yes, I'm sure there's a bit more than that. [I try to kill her on the regular and she acts like a school girl with a crush]
