[Kanaya peers in curiously at the kitchen when she catches a whiff of what's cooking. Hm, smells good...]

Pardon me?

[ she recognizes that voice! ]

Kanaya...?

Yes! [A blink. She peers more closely at Karen.] Ah, that is... you are Karen, correct?

That's me. Nice to meet you in person. [ goodness, prettiest troll. ]

Yes - [she laughs a bit and comes into the kitchen, looking curiously at Karen.] I am accustomed to speaking at length with my friends without seeing them, but admittedly it feels somewhat unusual sometimes, when everyone is so close at hand, not to have met.

It's incredible how lazy we got with these journals. Back home, it's cell iPhones and laptops...

We use husktops. Alternia is large and difficult to traverse, though, especially when the daylight prohibits travel for many trolls. [A glance towards the stove.] What are you making?

Husktops? I'm not familiar with the terminology you trolls use.

[ she moves a bit so kanaya can come join her side. ]

Spaghetti. Nothing fancy.

A husktop is mostly equivalent to a human laptop, as far as I can see, but they are animate. Most technology on Alternia is formatted quite differently that what humans work with. [She moves to the table.] May I sit?

I wish I could get a look at it. Back home, my company invests in creating and even recycling technology to better our ecosystem's problems. I wanted to try and examine some alien technology back home but looks like it'll have to wait.

Sure thing.

Sollux may have a computer setup much like those we use on Alternia, at least - if he hasn't rebuilt an entire system exactly like. [a little smile.] The systems are powered by bees. He is an adept hacker, so he could explain more to you.

[ PAUSE. ]

Did you say bees?

They're not quite alike to earthen bees, or so he says. I am not adroit enough with technology to enumerate every difference.

You know, you're well-spoken for a kid. A lot different than Karkat, seriously.

[a fond little chuckle at the mention of Karkat's name.]

Karkat is rough and abrasive, but a good friend and a diligent leader. I take it you have had some encounters with his temper, though?

Oh, boy.

Can I say understatement?
