005 - It's the unknown, the don't-know, that keeps me hangin on.

[Ten had been quiet for a long time...but he'd been busy, too. After his rather unfortunate foray into the Dead Zone, he'd come back to find out about kidnappings. Kidnappings that sounded an awful lot like the ones he'd read about last November ( Read more... )

Where are you? [Honestly, Doctor, there's truly concern in there. Somewhere underneath the anger at disappearing on her twice in a row like that.]

In a hallway.

[a beat. He hears that anger, but he's ignoring it at the moment.] The eleventh, I believe. They do all blur together, but that seems to be the right one.

I'll be right down there. [No, you don't get to argue. You probably don't get around being smacked, either.]

Really now...there's no need for that.

[especially since he's anticipating the train wreck this conversation will be...but he doesn't move. Stupid head.

Oh, well, that's about as clear as mud. Excellent job.

[...if you ask nicely, she might come out and help you back into the TARDIS.]

[have a slightly irritable response back]

Well, that's hardly my fault, now is it? Can't really make someone else be clear if they aren't feeling cooperative. And the castle really, really

You expected the castle to be cooperative? The completely mental castle that kidnapped us all in the first place?

n0secondchances May 23 2011, 04:20:34 UTC
Well, it was more a hope of getting around that, really.

It... didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped.

You were able to see into the mind of the castle?

[Someone's ego is a bit bruised. Her attempts were substantially less profitable.]

[if he's picking up on that bruising, it doesn't show in his voice]

I don't know if see's exactly the right word. Sensed? Peeked? Eavesdropped. It was well protected. Very well protected. And not at all fond of visitors, it would seem.

[Well, she's not terribly obvious about it, either.]

I know it well. My attempts to do much the same were less than successful and rewarded with a rather powerful strike against my own mind.

Your skill must be prodigious indeed.

Ah, well. I've had a bit of practice. And my mind's not so shabby itself. [smug Doctor might be a bit smug]

I can't say I'm overly fond of the striking though...I couldn't avoid that.

[Oh look, Yuki is conveniently on the 11th floor. For some reason.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the Doctor apparently communicating with the castle why would you think that.

Also, her kid is with Tyki or something. (What he likes kids she'll be fine with him B|)]

.......

[She's walking over, looking exceptionally serious.]

You communicated with it.

[glancing up, he manages a weary smile. He's all good. Really] Miss Nagato!

Well, communicated might be taking it a bit far...but I did manage a peek. Of sorts. [not that there isn't a little smugness sneaking into his voice, all the same]

[Yuki crouches down in front of him, unblinking.]

How?

[that gets a bit of a grimace] I'm...not entirely sure, to be honest. I'd been looking for a place to connect...someplace that seemed like it might work for tapping in to the consciousness, if there was one. So I went wandering about in there.

[his head jerks back towards the maze...which immediately gets a grimace as it throbs at him. Ow]

Right. Don't do that. Got it.

Anyway...I found a spot that just sort of...felt right. Took a peek and, next thing I know, my head's trying to split in two. And whatever connection was in that spot's gone, at least at the moment. Whatever's behind this place, it's certainly clever and not really looking to chat with the natives, you might say.

... Is there a single person in this castle that your little vague rambling's going to make sense to? It doesn't do us any good if it's garbled and vague.

Really, now! I put my health and mind on the line for that message, however brief, and that's the sort of gratitude I get? That's a fine thing, indeed.

Your health and mind were put on the line for garbled crap. Whose fault is that?

Reply

n0secondchances May 23 2011, 05:03:35 UTC
Well, its certainly not the fault of the messenger, now is it?

Humans...can't ever seem to find a bit of perspective...
