[Lana has gotten marginally settled in since she showed up all poisoned. She's read enough of the journal to be fairly savvy to the ways of the castle (and because, let's be honest, no one else will have the patience to deal with Archer when he inevitably has questions about the stuff he didn't listen to), and so she's pretty up to speed on ( Read more... )

[Brock strolls down into the lobby on his way to the kitchen, when he (understandably) is distracted by this attractive lady in a ... what is that, a sweaterdress? And boots? Um, okay.

Well, she looks new, and seems to be concentrating on the journal, which obviously means she has questions.

Brock now becomes an expert on all castle mysteries, and rolls on over.] Hey. You new?

Well, I think I'm clear on most things. The one thing I want to know is why the only part of my shitty relationship with my shitty ex-boyfriend that I can't remember is the part where he cheated on me.

Not... the shitty ex-boyfriend who came here with me. I mean the shitty ex-boyfriend after him.

[Awesome. Lana is clearly an awesome lady.]

[ kate knows her loss has to do with a memory. problem is that's ALL she knows. :( ]

It often takes memories of someone you knew. A friend, parent... I'd say that's shitty.

[Lana only knows because she was unfortunate enough to show up with someone who could clarify.]

But it didn't take the memories of him. Just the memories of him doing specific things. I didn't lose the memories of breaking up with him, either. Or even the memories of hating his stupid asshole guts.

I just can't figure out why the castle was so specific with my loss, you know?

Maybe it's the castle's way of saying you don't hate him? [ trying to crack a bit of a joke but immediately realizes she shouldn't have. not with a complete stranger, when she knows how much of a pain ex-lovers can be. ]

What sort of specific things are we talking about? If you don't mind answering.

He cheated on me. Like, repeatedly. Because he has a "sexual addiction". Which isn't even a real thing. Asshole.

[You know what Lana needs? An elf walking by and rapping at her uncontrollably. It's a good welcome wagon.]

You seem pretty chill for one who's memories are nill
It seems a memory is what this castle distilled
Up in a bottle all dandy like finest brandy
Now I can't remember who in the past used to make me so randy

[What.]

Um, yeah. Okay.

What?

[Quite a spectacle, isn't she?]

I'm pretty sure it's me you heard spewing the gospel word
Helping you clear up your brain, becoming less of a blur
The whore of a castle is such a huge hassle
Taking our memories and making it its unwilling vassals

Well the joke's on it; we ain't nobody's bitch

Paradisa doesn't want to turn you into an idiot. It just wants to take enough to make you unsettled... to keep you uncomfortable.

That's what I think, at least.

But it left all the feelings I have about it. Which is like, a lot of hate. So even if I didn't know what happened, I wouldn't have felt any different about it. How is that uncomfortable?

Maybe it took away something that would have made you think about the whole thing differently.

May I ask, what's your loss?

I forgot that my ex cheated on me. I remember breaking up with him, and all his ridiculous bullshit about "sexual addiction", but not him actually cheating.

[dictated:] To make the things we lose stand out more, I reckon. If they weren't important, the castle wouldn't take them.

agentkane March 31 2011, 16:28:46 UTC
Well, yeah. But what I can't figure out is why only that one part of an entire relationship.

windsturms March 31 2011, 16:34:42 UTC
You mean, like remembering only the negative things and not the positive ones?

Reply

agentkane March 31 2011, 16:38:37 UTC
Uh, nope. More like the castle took all the memories of what made me break up with my boyfriend. Still remember breaking up with him. Still remember hating him. Just can't remember why.
