[dictated:]There seems to be an unusual amount of people being turned into animals or statues lately. Does anyone know why it happens and what we can do to prevent it from happening? I don't want to risk being turned into one, especially when someone like Voldemort could show up in Paradisa at anytime. If you don't know who Voldemort is, he killed ( Read more... )

Draco is a ferret?

[A pause while he shifts between amusement and pity. Hard to tell what to feel.]

Thank you for letting me know.

It's hard to say without knowing all about your magic. Usually I request a representative piece of magic - something basic that can give me an idea of how it works.

I can show you my wand?

As yes...you need a wand to focus or channel your magic, correct?

Yes, no wand is the same. Mine's eleven inches long and it's made of holly and has a phoenix feather as its core.

I'm sorry...phoenix feather?

Yes. Um. From a very large bird?

I...see. [Don't mind him...it was just that phoenix happened to be the name of a particular drug from his world that he was sort of addicted to for awhile. But...moving on...]

That seems rather odd. Do you know why something like that would be used as a focus?

[long pause. thinks Hermione would have been able to answer that]

No. Sorry. I never thought to find out.

[You make him sad, Harry]

Pity. I'll have to investigate on my own then.

I wonder...are there any types of magic that does not require the use of a wand?

I'll bring my wand over one of these days and you can have a look at it. I hope you'll let me know what you find out. I'm curious to know.

As for wandless spell, some wizards have been known to be able to perform magic without the use of a wand. Goblins and elves are known for it. I might have done so a few times...

[Points back for curiosity]

A few times? Would it be possible for you to show me that, or could you tell me what the different between the two methods might be?

Not everyone can perform wandless magic. I was told that it could only be used by more powerful and disciplined wizards and witches.

I'm... not sure how I got the spell to work. When I was younger, it was a case of accidental wandless magic. Sometimes, you use specific hand gestures to get a spell to work and to direct it to a target.

[This made a lot of sense, actually]

I suppose this is why you have entire schools, to prevent you from doing magic accidentally?

Yes. We're not even allowed to do magic during the school holidays as we could get expelled for it.

How is it you perform your magic?

[A small chuckle]

That's a rather broad question.

But generally my magic is more or less mental. We use gestures and material components as needed, which isn't often. Cabalines also tend to channel their magic with rings. I imagine it might be similar to how you use your wand, but it's not strictly necessary, though they do help to amplify and focus the effects.
